I Made The Hardest Puzzle Game Ever

Pretty much Geometry dash on steroids.

In this video, I made a challenging rage-inducing puzzle platformer about gravity. It was made using python, with the Pygame library. It also has a level editor. According to my playtesters, it might even be the hardest platformer ever, maybe even a rage game, kinda like getting over it

After this, I plan to move on to another game engine, such as gamemaker, godot, unreal engine, or maybe even unity, but I’m not so sure, since they partnered with a malware company and laid off a bunch of employees or whatever. Might also do some pygame tutorials in the future.

The game was heavily inspired by the gameplay of Geometry Dash, the aesthetic of Portal, the difficulty of Celeste, and the level editor in Will You Snail

I was hoping to participate in the GMTK game jam in July, but had to leave for vacation, so maybe I'll catch the next Wowie Jam in August

Quick tip when trying to run the game: PyGame doesn’t use RAM or your GPU, just your CPU, so keeping other apps closed while playing would be ideal

Thanks for watching :)

  • Thank you guys for watching! Sorry if the clips shown don't match the described order in which the features were added, I didn't get as much footage of early development as I should have. ALSO: If your computer still says the game is a virus, it's just a false positive, but if you don't believe me, the source code is on the itch.io/ page if you wanna put it together yourself. ALSO ALSO: I have yet to finish implementing different resolutions / screen sizes, as it currently only supports 1920/1080. If you load up the game and the screen looks cut off, don't worry, I'll do my best to get lower resolutions to work within the next few days, hopefully. (Update: failed to implement this, but going into your computer settings and setting native resolution to 1920/1080 might work depending on your monitor)
  • this will totally not lead to unbelievably hard gameplay that may contain frame perfect timings like in the hit game "geometry dash"
  • @williamist
this is insanely well made and polished, both the video and the game. well done! i really hope this game becomes one of those rage games all the youtubers play, i'd love to see it.
  • @Kenpoviper
honestly, i prefer "the grav lab" for the name, more unique then "a gravity game", other than that, this is INCREDIBLE
  • @purplebeanie
SO HAPPY FOR YOU AAA it’s finally done and it looks amazing!! Chris did an amazing job as well!! It was awesome to see how you went from 2D green block to amazing 3D art, aesthetic is great, 100/100 👏

UPDATE CONCEPTS: 1. More slime colors and abilities! I love the complicated aspect of different abilities being useful at different times, so why not make more! 2. A new block or something that changes your color when you stand on it or be around it in some way or another. You could also have this color changing mechanism as an interactive. However, you would need to be able to tell what color you are going to change into (or not if you want some randomization and/or risk-taking). 3. A teleporter thing that can be a block or a portal or whatever. When you fall into it or step on it, you are teleported to the teleporter linked to it. If you wish, you can make slimes able to re-enter teleporters at will. (this one is somewhat complicated, so it isn't one that I really care too much about; but it would still be very cool to see, and would open up so much new gameplay.)

Damn, you really went all out with this huh? The game? Awesome. The video editing? Top notch. The fact you used creo music for music? 11/10 (I love creo's music) Humor? Great! You've got a lot of potential and you're showing it off here very well! Keep up the amazing work!!

  • @DevBanana
WTF this game is actually crazy good for it being made without a game engine! I can't imagine how long you spent on it lol. This video was really good as well ngl

  • really cool video! one change I thought of was making the jump length go up and down, so that if you need to do a short jump, you dont have to press really quickly
  • @RugbugRedfern
