Alongside the announcement of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2, Apple released the Final Cut Camera app. When combined, they allow live monitoring and camera control for multicam shoots with iPhones and iPads. Chris and Jordan met up with local legend Tyler Stalman to see how this system works, and what limitations are there.

I love seeing their 9 foot long arms and legs on the ultrawide living room cam. Epic.

Dear Apple...NOW would be a GREAT time to bring back "APERTURE"...please and thank you!
  • @ZOB4
Not to comment on the ad instead of the feature, but that Anker battery is my go to when I’m doing live streams at work to power my laptop and directly power my camera. Works great.
  • @antzpantz
No live switching? Only Apple would think of a way to nerf a perfectly common use case.
  • Ouch, hearing that the iPhone Xs is an old phone hurts me and my iPhone 7 😂
  • @loltimno
This is way more comprehensive than I thought it was going to be.
  • @RobertLM_
I have an old XR lying around and it would be good to put it to use as a different camera angle. Cool feature.
  • @halimrahman
Log is only available when using Prores, not HEVC. 60 fps prores is only available when using an external drive.
  • I have a cracked glass Xs Plus and this is fantastic I will be able to put it to use again.
  • @yogamazing
Great episode and YES I own ANKER products, highly recommend their batteries!
  • @virtualfilmer
This was so great and in depth. Let’s hope they bring live switching to this! Also I wonder how easy it is to edit the resulting multicam clips in premiere or avid - can you just export them as normal? One of the big pain points with iPhone / iPad is slowwwww usb. I have a 2021 iPad Pro and a 2023 iPhone 14 Pro Max and they crawllll over usb / thunderbolt for transferring files :)
  • @grahmdoughty
Sorry if I missed it in the video, but is the audio from the iPhone mics? Or were you using other mics?
  • @DoubleTheDom
Imagine if Apple made a pro photo editing app 😢😢😢
  • @d2suarez
Can I use this and bring the video into Resolve?
  • @seegrimm
Does the 179 Degree trick work on the GH7 as well for auto focus?
  • So, to be clear, to use the multicam feature the host needs to be an iPad running Final Cut Pro 2 and NOT the Final Cut Camera app? I haven't bought into the FCP subscription at this point, but after fussing with the camera app on multiple phones I gathered this may be the case. Also, can I hotspot a personal WiFi network from one of my devices to connect them all? Thanks

I was hoping for live switching too [hey, Apple, suggestion for a quick workaround: how about the ability to tap to add a mark to the active track, to speed up final render later?] but I get it: this is NOT for the Jordan Drakes of the world. It's for people who can get pretty good video with one iPhone, and would like to make multi-angle videos without having to add a lot of expensive hardware or learn a lot of nerdy stuff. For them, this new capability is, if not a home run, a solid triple. What really caught my attention is other than the wide-angle distortion (which is Chris's fault for not having a bigger house) the finished segment looked really polished.
