Irish Deputy Premier: Irish ambassador has been subjected to ‘unacceptable’ treatment by Israel

Published 2024-05-25
Israel’s reprimand of Ireland’s ambassador was “totally unacceptable”, the Irish Deputy Premier Micheal Martin has said.

Mr Martin made the remarks after Ambassador Sonya McGuinness was summoned to the Israeli foreign affairs ministry and reprimanded over Ireland’s decision to recognise the state of Palestine.

They are offended by everything, ashamed of nothing.

That is what they do to everyone standing up against them. Such a high morality. And still, people support them. Mind blowing.

Now treat the Irish people with respect and stop the Garda attacking them.

Now treat the protester at the IPAS centres with respect and stopping calling out the riot squad.

Just a minute - some years ago the Israeli ambassador in Ireland was called in to some dubious government committee and given a bollocking about Palestine - on TV. Richard Boyd Barrett TD was involved, as I recall. The Irish government should be reminded of this. There has always been an international tradition of keeping diplomats out of swampish matters. It did not help that Barrett was wearing a black shirt, rather than a suit.

It’s not appropriate to recognise terrorist states either.

quoting Israel’s first PM, David Ben-Gurion, said on X: “Our future is not dependent on what the gentiles will say but rather what the Jews will do!”

It never surprises me when politicians don't like what's happening at home they deflect it somewhere else. We don't care about the hurt feelings of the ambassador boo hoo. Don't try and virtue signal to the world when you are not sorting out the problems at home, try some virtue signalling amongst the Irish population, that you are taking for granted and treating like they mean nothing.
  • Ireland needs to look after the people of Ireland as it's shocking - what's going on in Ireland.

`` Irish people´´ in Gaza and Egypt are most likely far from Irish people to be hornest. ! But more likely Irish immigrants whom have been legalised into Irish Citizenship status, while apparently returning without any sudden issues. This sounds like pure BS to me. Why should true Irish pay for this?

Oh dear, the hurt must be excruciating. But it’s not normal to recognise a non existent state that has committed the most barbaric acts of terrorism on its neighbour and is avowed to their destruction. There again, this is the man that proudly stated he was renouncing any backward move towards reclaiming Ireland’s sovereignty and thinks it is beneficial for Ireland to accept millions of immigrants seemingly before they can adequately provide for their own citizens.

I don’t know if the Ambassador was in some way poorly treated but given that the Israeli Ambassador was castigated in the Dail, it’s surely a question of slap me and I will slap you back.
