Genshin Impact's Version 4.6 brought with it the LONG anticipated release of Arlecchino, marking the fourth Pyro unit released in Version 4 and a powerful one at that. With Arlecchino, Lyney, Chevreuse and Gaming, is Pyro back in the meta? Or is this a precursor to an even bigger future problem with the element?

If you told anyone at the start of Genshin that Pyro, the most popular and well known element, would be swapped in it’s rankings with Electro, which was regarded as it’s weakest counterpart no one would believe you. And yet here we are now 😭

I really love how every discussion about Genshin balance has to either ignore Geo because it brings nothing to the conversation or just say "And then there's geo loudly choking to death in the corner"
  • Pyro was never "weak", it was just vape being pretty much the ONLY dps-viable team, hence it took almost ALL the "market share" of meta teams. But now we have OTHER dps-viable teams, like Aggravate/Spread, Blooms, Overload (with Chevy), and even mono teams. So its not pyro became "weak", its just that now pyro is sharing the usage rate with other elements.

Your forgetting they have not tapped into one market yet. Debuffing. The only debuffing unit is Mona
  • Make burning great. They're already making moves and I love DOT so I pray. Bonus for new pyro playstyle. Or create burgeon specialty like Nilou but that may be too specific and broad at the same time as it requires 3 elements. Edit: Wanted to add that I agree, the current niches are being filled, and it’s getting much harder to see a clear path for a new play style without bringing a new reaction. Tho if they ever add one, it’ll be dainsleifs thing and that’s not gonna be for 5 years so idfk

While i like the direction Arlecchino has taken as an on-field dps, i really hope for Natlan we can have more off-field/support pyro characters. Before Chevreuse, the only GOOD support or off-field characters we ever got are Bennet and Xiangling. Thoma needed Dendro in roder to be viable, and Dehya had a ton of potential, but... we know what happened. Could you imagine a pyro character that can consistently apply pyro to enemies? Ganyu may come back to the meta, Neuvi would be even more broken than how it is, etc.

Almost certain that The Pyro Archon will be a fusion of Diluc, Xiangling and Bennet: - Capable of being used as a Hypercarry - Good Off Field Damage - Buffs for the entire team And Natlan will probably be where Pyro will have its rebirth in the META

i think my favorite aspect of Arlecchino’s kit is that she keeps her pyro infusion even if you swap out so it’s very easy to refresh teammate buffs and then bring her back out to keep dealing damage 🙌 also my outlook on the future of Pyro is still fairly positive! while i agree that the DPS category is getting crowded i think there’s still room to explore in the buffer and sustain categories — plus i think we’re still lacking a bit in off-field pyro appliers: Dehya and Thoma have slower application that can also accidentally steal vapes/melts in some teams and while we ALL know Xiangling is cracked, her application can sometimes be too much so i would really like to see hoyo release an off-field pyro applier that stands somewhere in the middle of this spectrum 🙏

anyone noticed that the harbingers are onfielders and they’re all stance changers (i count wanderer’s floating stance as a stance change)

I think Arlecchino's release bizarrely enough has buffed Layla up a bit Zhongli is of course going to be better most of the time but due to Layla's very strong shield she becomes a good option for Arlecchino, on top of basically never ending cryo application for melt, Layla seems to have a bit more of a purpose than she did before

Well, with Natlan in the corner, I'd say Pyro will be great again. Also, I'm looking forward to what the devs will do with the burning reaction because right now no team can really utilize the new burning artifact set
  • @MellowGirl2000
I played Genshin maybe twice during the last 3 week patch but this convinced me to come back .i know shes been a long awaited character but I didn't think I'd like her this much

Chevreuse was such an amazing upgrade for Pyro. I know it’s generally “locked” behind overload, but even on non-overload teams, the casual heal is a huge QoL boost, and the ascension 4 passive damage buff does not require pyro+electro only teams.
  • I think the big reason as to why pyro isn't really reaching the heights that the other elements are is that as they are atk based the soft max is far smaller than hydro, dendro or electro who use hp or em and the lack of off field application (aside from the obvious) I mean think about it, most of the best teams/units use the 2x damage reaction or have massive natural pyro damage bonus or even both, and look I am not saying they are bad by any means but even with all these massive bonuses they are simply equal to other things who don't have that
  • @dinocharlie1
There's still more niches that pyro doesn't have filled yet. Bursty, one-shot damage like some Ayaka builds, and skill focused damage like Fischl are the two that come to mind. And then of course there's other elements that show basically entire overlap that don't seem to interfere with eachother at all. Xinqiu and Yelan both have a place for different niches and same with Fischl and Yae Miko. Some teams have one of these better than the other, and it's not a direct one outclasses the other. Furina even seems to Overlap a ton with the other two hydros mentioned and still has a separate (although more dominant most of the time) place in the meta.
  • @venteanari
Confused as to the premise of the video when Hu Tao and Xiangling have remained at the top in both speedrunning leaderboards and povertc recommendations....
  • @voshadxgathic
Bennett and Xiangling have been competitive picks forever, and are still to this day, despite only being 4 stars. Pyro was never weak.
  • @efebs4978
With the new artifact set tailored for burning, I think some of the future pyro characters would be able to utilize that reaction well, and whether they're a main or sub dps, they will atleast have a different playstyle to already existing characters.
  • Not really worried about Pyro. Natlan will be released before the end of this year and I am sure the Pyro Archon will be the support the Pyro Element is lacking. My prediction though is that Pyro will get a few unique reactions that will give Pyro itself some more interesting playstyles. Like Geo + Pyro making the Molten reaction, where it leaves a small pool of lava on where the reaction occurs then enemies take burning damage from it that also slows them and the Burning Reaction having a second reaction with Pyro with something like Scorched that gets applied after like 5 seconds of burning, that adds a Pyro Resistance debuff to the enemy that's EM based. It really feels that Pyro element lacks interesting elemental reactions currently. By adding more Pyro related reactions, it would also bring up Pyro as an element as well.
