Victoria on its way to burning diesel as gas levels run low warns Graham Lloyd

Published 2024-03-28
The Australian’s Environment Editor Graham Lloyd says Victoria could soon be burning diesel as the state’s gas levels are running low.

The remarks follow warnings of a potential shortfall as soon as 2025 as a result of anti-gas policies.

“The warnings are coming thick and fast that that’s where things are heading,” Mr Lloyd told Sky News Australia host Steve Price.

“We’re getting to the situation where gas is running low so we’re going to be burning diesel fuel instead.

“To argue against the emissions of something we end up creating more emissions, burning something else.

“These are the unintended consequences of trying to have an outcome without having a proper road map to get there."

Australian gas export at all time high and Victorians can't light there own farts without Climate Change , lol ,
  • @David_Beames
So Australia has so much gas but we let multinational companies export most of it. That's kind of f'd up, isn't it?

Can we just go back to sensible coal fired power stations..they are cheap and they work and the planet will still be here!
  • @stenkarasin2091
Domestic manufacture? Without mining, with a crippled energy supply? Good luck.
  • It will never happen...the cost of panels will be at least 10 times more than current prices from China
  • @ace-tv4hi
If you live in Victoria get out while you can it will be a disaster under the fools in power.
  • @rickandersen707
I just got hit $ 975 for land tax....most likely due to the incompetent Victorian ALP needing to top up the coffers....unbelievable
  • @mudbutton2
So what happens to old decomissioned solar panels? Landfill!
  • @Prognosis__
Do we need to import the Chinese to make the panels?
  • @savagegfry
So, how do you make solar panels in Australia, to any scale, when all of the materials are imported, from China? Is the lying PM suggesting that mineral processing will be restarted here, to support a truely Australian, vertically integrated manufacturing industry?

Subsidised, i.e, paid for by us, until the money runs out.

Didn't know that you people were consulting with South African electricity generators on how to run your energy production.
  • They should have put a mandatory gas reserve in place in Australia of about fifty percent of the total gas available in the country a few years ago. Petroleum and gas go hand in hand so it's no surprise gas has copped victimisation. 😎🇦🇺
  • BS, shortage of gas of my butt. What do you think that flame is burning on the top of the oil rigs in Bass Strait. That's right natural GAS.
