Today we're excited to introduce Devin, the first AI software engineer.

Devin is the new state-of-the-art on the SWE-Bench coding benchmark, has successfully passed practical engineering interviews from leading AI companies, and has even completed real jobs on Upwork.

Devin is an autonomous agent that solves engineering tasks through the use of its own shell, code editor, and web browser.

When evaluated on the SWE-Bench benchmark, which asks an AI to resolve GitHub issues found in real-world open-source projects, Devin correctly resolves 13.86% of the issues unassisted, far exceeding the previous state-of-the-art model performance of 1.96% unassisted and 4.80% assisted.

  • What's intriguing is our approach to marketing Devin, despite the fact that none of us actually use Devin in our daily work. The real question is whether our children or anyone else really needs to go to college if Devin is going to handle everything. If colleges can't generate revenue because Devin is now the programmer, teacher, and lawmaker, then we have a significant problem. What does that mean for our children? I believe Devin is overhyped, as many businesses still don't use AI and there aren't enough AI developers to meet the demand. It feels like we're providing free advertising just to shut down what was already established.
  • So sounds like junior devs might spend more time watching Devin code than coding themselves.
  • Love that you're going to start doing some ML content. This has been my favourite coding channel on Youtube for a long time. Always love coming back for the wholesome content.

🤯 Don’t worry, it won’t affect everyone. There’s just too much hype around this AI thing. In this industry, it’s not always about coding. Planning, strategy, debugging, communication, solving client problems, and making them happy — all play crucial roles too. Continuous learning and improvement are essential for every developer. Never stop learning.
  • Ed, what a refreshing change from your regular coding tutorials! Keep mixing it up - loving the laughs and insights! 🎉
  • @lbwui
    Time to change major
  • I share your frustrations with next auth! The package is way to unstable to be a standard in next land imo. I may try to do it from scratch the future.
  • great good info, good for you. there is in the 2 videos we have watched, this banging noice that oscillates...fyi
  • @iBPMxJordy
just about to graduate software engineering and this come out...
  • Thats why i quit learning to code last year and started learning the stock market. Move on people.

The bad thing is that all that marketing is not aimed at software engineers, we know its limitations, it's aimed at the higher ups. Managers don't care about the code, they care about the finished product at any cost. So they might see this and think a real dev will do the same results as this AI.
  • @Mfbzai
Feel bad for any developer who has family that not in safe situation.
  • @Zaromir
My body is starving for the Next 14 course
  • All Cognition developers can be replaced with Devin AI ;)
  • @naylord5
Hi Ed! By any chance are you planning to update your course to Next 14? Maybe with the latest features like server actions? Thank you in advance!

Playing with tinyllama earlier, I asked it "what is 2 + 2?" about twenty times in a row and it had a complete meltdown. Some of its answers were well over a hundred words of what reads like a deranged maths professor on LSD obsessing on getting an answer of six. Loads of fun and I don't think anyone technical needs to worry about their jobs quite yet. Every AI I tried makes up answers, never actually admits its wrong and delivers very little at all. Just like politicians an project managers 😂

This is like to design your house new location, in the middle of a tzunami.
