Nissan changed the rules of racing with the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R. It earned the name Godzilla by dominating everything Toyota, Honda, BMW and Ford had to offer. The RB26DETT and ATTESA ET-S system turned the R32 GT-R into the fastest production car. Find out how the top secret 901 Movement created the GT-R and many other cars at Nissan in the 90's.

Fun fact: every generation of the GT-R, starting from the R32 have set a lap record at the Nürbugring. No wonder why Porsche were so salty and accused Nissan of cheating.

Man we need more JDM documentaries like this! No over-editing, no bs,no loud music etc ! Absolutely loved your effort! Hoping more wonders from you !!

This is why the R32 is still my dream car. One day boys. One day.
  • In 1990 a gtr pulled up to the start line in a race track in japan.. it's competitors are starring at it's four round read brake lights..and for years that's all they ever see of it🔥

This guy is practically saving us car enthusiasts from becoming just pricey car lovers by telling us the untold stories..... Thanks man!

In the second half of the 1980s I worked for a major automotive magazine, and went to Nissan to interview a few brasses, including Yasuharu Namba of NISMO. He was a man of small stature, friendly and gentle and yet not prone to over-familiarity, and I couldn't help sensing that he always had a couple of projects being developed inside his head at all times. When Yutaka Kume announced the 901 movement, almost everyone at the editorial office was skeptical as Nissan seemed like a basket case at the time, I was one of two who were convinced that they're going to pull it off. With hindsight, those were the heady, glory days: heroes could well be those mild-mannered middle-age men in suits and ties, with the fires of a teenager within them.

Yep as a young guy I watched the r32gtr leave the other cars for dead.... Back then I was a Holden supporter.... Then dad brought a skyline as a family car... And l had to admit... It was a great car.. Years went buy and I had to have a skyline... I worked overtime saved and brought a 1990 r32gtr ...ill always remember the day I pulled into my dad's drive way. And I still own that car today. ❤

The story is so accurate. I’ve never seen a documentary on the R32 that touches on the subject of the R31 GTS-R’s HICAS system as well as the origins of the ATESSA-ETS which is exactly what made this a truly the most advanced production car at its time. Bravo to you guys for creating such a well researched tribute to this legendary car!

As an Aussie watching this, you nailed the Godzilla era and the impact it had to motorsport in this country. The R31 and R32 GTRs were the aspiration of many a young petrol head (they still are!)

Watching this makes me feel that much more proud and lucky to have a GT-R32 in my garage.

In 1991 I lived in Japan for a study abroad program. The father of the family I stayed with had a GTR. What an awesome car it was.
  • @IJNAoba9-25-26
The GTR had a mostly stock and innocent looking body with minor bits of Ducts and a small spoiler, while really, it was a complete powerhouse internally. Meaning the GTR is an example of a Sleeper car.

Not only is the Nissan Godzilla a monster… but the construction of the story, and the story teller…. Very very well done.

Oh man, I got to say that SQUIDD didn't just elevate the bar for video essay documentaries about cars, SQUIDD shattered it. It's not just the great editing, or the superb reading and good voice. It's the text and how everything comes together with that. You speak about the cars and the stories in the same way as those brilliant engineers built their cars, with so much love and passion and when the telling is worthy of the story, it resonates. I'm not the first one to point out how good these videos are, but damn. Even the carefully considered cussing to really put the emphasis when needed. I don't think person needs to be into cars to absorbed by the stories you've told and what comes through to everyone is absolute appreciation for the story, events and cars.
  • @TheAlphaDingo
as both a car lover and a G fan (Godzilla), how can you not love the nickname they gave the GT-R. An all conquering monster of immense power, unrivalled, undefeated, unmatched. Such a shame that they stopped allowing them to compete here in Australia - the protective union mindset of trying to protect the local manufacturing industries was counter productive. Instead of getting innovative to regain that competitive edge, they got complacent and lazy.

1 minute in and I am completely hooked! I do not comment on videos ever, but this particular one is special. Narration is amazing where you feel connected to the story. When I went to your channel to look for more videos I see that you are just starting out, the quality from the start defines the journey, which I am excited to be a part of! I cannot wait for the stories that are yet to come! Subscribed for life, Best of luck with your journey :))

A 8.22 on the nurburgring in a stock 1990 nissan gtr is absolutely wild to think about.. thats insane.. no wonder those cars were so dominant for so long they were way ahead of their time
  • @WarriorsPhoto
Truly an in-depth look into why the GT-R was and is legendary. I remember driving one in Japan. It was everything people said it is. It's unfortunate that we never got it here in the USA but soon enough for right price tag many will have them. I hope to see them at car shows soon.
