I love how Shanks has two very different speeds in his demeanor. There's his usual fearsome Yonko side the world sees him as, but at soon as someone mentions Luffy he switches to this endearing, happy-go-lucky uncle/older brother type guy. As far as I know, he's not even a bad guy, he's just crazy strong and doesn't take shit from the World Government.

This moment was great because the portrayal of mihawk when we first meet him feels utterly inhuman. Like hes just a walking killing machine devoid of human emotion. Seeing smiley shanks pour him a drink and party with him immediately recontextualized his whole persona

I found it very wholesome that Mihawk went out of his way just to deliver this news to Shanks himself. Like "Long time no see bro! Btw, remember that kid you always go on and on about? Is this him? Yeah, I thought you'd get excited by this"

Shanks: lost an arm and said it was not a big deal, dueled the strongest swordsman in the world, is counted among the 4 strongest pirates in the world and rules a big part of the new world, significant enough to be called an emperor of the sea, he also interferes with politics and can easily get into the land of gods and speak with the gorosei. Also Shanks: sitting on a log on a random island and getting wasted

If you want to know why this was such a big deal, consider this: Prior to Luffy, the pirate with the highest bounty in East Blue was Arlong, a notorious pirate with a proven track record who had sailed on the Grand Line. Arlong's bounty was only ฿20M. Luffy's first bounty, when the Navy knows almost nothing about him, is ฿30M. This is the Navy saying that Luffy is the most dangerous pirate in East Blue and is a top priority to hunt down and capture/eliminate.
