Ujung Kulon National Park in Indonesia, where the recording was made, is a vast tropical rainforest registered as a UNESCO Natural Heritage site. This forest is famous as a spiritual sanctuary, and is visited by many people "regardless of religion" for the purpose of prayer.

Field Recording Notes
Recorded on the southern coast of Ujung Kulon. This coast faces the Indian Ocean and is
and is unobstructed to the Antarctic Ocean, with strong winds and high waves. However, because of the shallow sandy beach, it is not directly exposed to high waves. The sandy beach is covered with patterns that look like ancient relics. If you look closely, you can see that they are small lumps of sand arranged in a radial pattern, which is actually the aftermath of a crab's meal.
Walking westward along this beach to the end of the beach is a spiritual sanctuary, where many people of all religions make pilgrimages. The pilgrims we passed this day were a family, accompanied by a woman who did not seem to have much trekking experience. The trail to this point was not well maintained, and I could not hide my amazement at the sight of the path, which I had barely made it across the swampy, waist-deep water due to the season. I later learned that they had actually chartered a fisherman's boat to reach the north shore of the peninsula. Still, they must be quite passionate about this pilgrimage, since they had traversed the jungle to the south side.
On the almost deserted coast, the roar of the waves and the faint sounds of birds and insects from the jungle behind us gave us a sense of freedom that we could not experience in a human village. The sound of bubbling bubbles on the waves transmits minute tremors to your skin, giving you an indescribable feeling of exhilaration. I hope that through this work, I have been able to share with you this experience that seems to awaken the body's natural life force.
