VGA is analog, HDMI is digital. This is a fundamental difference but there are many others. Playing retro consoles with COMPONENT/COMPOSITE or VGA/SCART is awkward at best. Older consoles may display well enough to game on an LCD but for PC owners, rendering stretched and corrupted characters on the screen becomes a huge headache. Sync on Green support may be optional, but it really helps for some!

    isn't there a standalone solution able to record the video autonomously (without the need of a PC) on a hard drive, usb pendrive or sd card?
