Here is the next episode in the brief Spring of ’67 back-to-back episodes that I have. If you watched this one on VH1 back in the 90’s (like me), how many of the dancers did you know back then? Look how far we’ve come.

As you can probably notice, I had to sort-of cobble this one together from various copies and other YT sources, but most of what aired on VH1 is here. I think “Mirage” got cut off by whoever taped this on their VCR and I don’t think the kids dancing to Otis Reddings’ “Shake” or the Mark Lindsay segment were ever included on this shortened episode, but I could be wrong.

I had to overdub “Respect” because the original audio is b-l-o-c-k-e-d. I’ll never understand the rules here on YT. *shrug. Hopefully this won’t get blocked.

Randomly: ask Alexa (Amazon) what her favorite song is.

On the Billboard Hot 100 today

1) RESPECT – Aretha Franklin
2) Groovin’ – The Young Rascals
3) I Got Rhythm – The Happenings
4) Release Me – Engelbert Humperdinck
5) Creeque Alley – The Mamas & the Papas
6) Him or Me -What’s It Gonna Be – Paul Revere & the Raiders

9) Somebody to Love – Jefferson Airplane
10) All I Need – The Temptations
11) Mirage – Tommy James and the Shondells
39) Ain’t No Mountain High Enough – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

We’re so close to the end of the pandemic – Please go get your “jab(s)” if you haven’t already.

Thank you for watching!

As a soon to be 71 year old I just turned into my 15 year old self hearing White Rabbit!! Still one of the greatest songs of all time!!!
  • Jack was the coolest looking rockstar of that era. And his playing was a game changer for electric bass as well.

After 55 years, "White Rabbit" still gives me chills.

"White Rabbit" is such a sophisticated song. If it were to be released today it would be regarded as underground music and most of the American public would have missed this gem

I'm not a bass player ...... but I love Jack Casady's playing with the Airplane, it's like a lead instrument in his hands.

I’m 72 within spitting distance of 73 and this show brought me back to when I was 17 and these people were just as I was, but better dancers. I’m retired now and am amateur musician, singer/songwriter and producer in my retirement. This show was as close to time travel as I can experience and this music formed the soundtrack of my young life. Thanx😎
  • These old American Bandstand clips are fascinating for so many reasons...multiple aspects of pop culture all rolled in to one perfect time capsule: Fashions, hairstyles, music, slang, dancing, products, advertising.

I'm 65 and I remember American bandstand very well. Looking back at it now I reflect on how good Dick Clark was at what he did and why he was a legend he was. America still had its innocence for a little while longer. I wish I could go back

OMG,... The bass line on "Someone to Love" is FANTADSTC!!! Jack Casady did an unreal job in this performance. Just blew me away. Heavy respect from a fellow player who just loved the grove he was laying here. Made the whole show, .. for me anyway...

Slick’s voice was so amazing, and so effortless.

This is undoubtedly one of the best historically significant moments in music.

Jefferson Airplane SO FAR ahead of their time - and the epitome of cool for that time. The music still grabs the soul:)

DC was a true gentleman. His open-mindedness seen in his questioning was actually shocking to me. We havent seen that in a while.
  • I'm 73 yrs old and I still get chills when I Grace Slick and Jefferson Starship
  • I saw the Airplane at Asbury Park Convention Center in 1967 and was lucky enough to meet some members of the band after the show. Can still picture Grace Slick smiling and waving at me as the bus pulled away.
