An early love of mathematics led Cynthia Barnhart into engineering, where she now develops new models and algorithms around optimization methods for large-scale transportation and logistics problems. Professor Barnhart is a former codirector of both the Center for Transportation and Logistics and the Operations Research Center; she currently serves as director of Transportation@MIT and as associate dean for the School of Engineering.
