I would argue that this was an intentional safety choice by the engineers of the car. If the distance keeping radar stops working or is obstructed (by snow or mud or whatever), it would be dangerous for the car computer system to "silently fail" and not get the driver's attention (lulling the driver into a false sense of security.) By alerting you and disengaging the system, the car is saying, "I can't do this safely anymore. You take over." While annoying to some drivers, this is the safe and (imo) the correct choice by the car's engineers.
  • Allen, you need to try cleaning that film off and retry it. I've had these in semi trucks for several years. They can vary.

Lane keep assist works of the front camera at the top of the windshield. The cruise control and FCA work of the radar. The radar is not in a great position that low and has no air flow over it that possibly could help clean off some snow and ice. The build up of ice is obviously to much for this radar to function properly. Yes it would be nice if you could use regular cruise control. I believe all cars with adaptive cruise control shut down cruise completely if radar is obstructed. That is so people don't rear end other cars thinking they have adaptive cruise even if they don't. Putting warnings on the dash about the adaptive cruise malfunctioning does not work. People ignore, forget and get confused with such warnings. Hence, complete shut down of such systems. Tesla installed a heated radar for about a year or two before they removed the radar completely. Tesla had talked about using a spray on the front bumper that will help prevent the build up of ice, snow and debris in the radar area. I can't find it right now, but it was a product that was available on amazon. I guess anything that makes a surface slick and prevents adhesion would work. Silicone spray may even work but probably not last for more than one drive or so. Best solution: Move to Florida 😂
  • This happens all the time when it's snowing you need to wipe the front censer off and it will work properly again.
