What makes the ending sad for me is that David didn’t learn, he spent his life following others dreams and that’s all he did, he followed his mothers dream and then he followed Lucys but he never followed his own. Side note: you can hear little things in the song that fits the narrative of the show like “I’ll make this city burn, we’re not planning to return.” referencing Lucy wanting to go to the moon and never return to night city, there is alot more references but that would take ages to type out.
