Hillsdale College is an independent institution of higher learning founded in 1844 by men and women “grateful to God for the inestimable blessings” resulting from civil and religious liberty and “believing that the diffusion of learning is essential to the perpetuity of these blessings.” It pursues the stated object of the founders: “to furnish all persons who wish, irrespective of nation, color, or sex, a literary, scientific, [and] theological education” outstanding among American colleges “and to combine with this such moral and social instruction as will best develop the minds and improve the hearts of its pupils.” As a nonsectarian Christian institution, Hillsdale College maintains “by precept and example” the immemorial teachings and practices of the Christian faith.

The College also considers itself a trustee of our Western philosophical and theological inheritance tracing to Athens and Jerusalem, a heritage finding its clearest expression in the American experiment of self-government under law.

By training the young in the liberal arts, Hillsdale College prepares students to become leaders worthy of that legacy. By encouraging the scholarship of its faculty, it contributes to the preservation of that legacy for future generations. By publicly defending that legacy, it enlists the aid of other friends of free civilization and thus secures the conditions of its own survival and independence.

You’ll notice that when Mr. Hanson gives his lectures that not only is he very knowledgeable and seems like he could be someone that lives next door. But in such a laid back tone, he speaks to the audience the same way he would if you were sitting down with him somewhere one on one , having a cup of coffee… like he is here. This is why I’ve always enjoyed hearing his lectures.

This student is much more mature and well-spoken than I was at that age. Well done dude.

Smart man, lets hope more citizens listen.
  • This man was born for such a time as this; he's someone who understands the theoretical and the practical, and can communicate with both intellectuals and the common man. He has (to quote Joni Mitchell) looked at life from both sides now, and probably has enjoyed how hands-on labor and intellectual enlightenment have played off each other throughout the years; e.g., he's probably enjoyed all the breaks from academia, by getting on his tractor, breathing in the fresh air, and taking in the good earth. In a world that too often looks down on the working class as being beneath them or unsophisticated, VDH has emerged to show (in my mind) a superior synthesis of the ideal and the real. He is a TRUE genius for our time! Beautiful presentation Hillsdale, with a very timely and vital set of messages. Bravo!

VDH is so wise. I am always amazed by how he can explain the most difficult subjects with such ease and everyday language that anyone can understand. An Absolutely fantastic man. God bless you dear sir.

An old school traditional man who worked hard on the farm and was a college professor. He articuled everything here, he knows the futures going in a dangerous projection, America's falling and its sad.

Awesome! I cannot tell how blessed I feel we are for this man being on Youtube and listening to his cogent, down to earth responses to the issues of today. I usually feel much better about our current predicament after listening to Dr. Hanson. True gem of America. Perhaps the best we have!

Excellent, as always. This gentleman needs to somehow be heard by the masses beyond conservatives who naturally enjoy listening to him.
  • I took the dying citizen course! Dr Victor Davis Hanson please upload more of your lectures online!

Would be a lot more like this man as a society if we all started reading more and turning off the cell phones and television

1/7/22; Thank you Hillsdale for making this informal 'coffee' talk at student union Cafe with VDH. Easy to listen & learn by comparisons of many political, economic & social issues as Dr.Hanson speaks about his career experiences. His new/latest book The Dying Citizen is being discussed via 1-on-1 interviews all over YT in more formal settings..but your presentation in this video was very enjoyable! Young student with VDH at Cafe Coffee table was just great!👍👍👍😊☕
