St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney has FOUR pipe organs – and in fact, all four of these are used regularly for different purposes. Join me and Kim on a tour today around the cathedral, and discover the beautiful sounds of the organ.

Organs featured:
2017 Klop chamber organ (1 man, 3 stops)
2000 Létourneau organ (4 man, 46 stops)
1960 Sharp organ (2 man, 26 stops)
1942 Whitehouse organ (2 man, 27 stops)

What I showed in the video were the main features of each organ – to hear more, please look for more performances on Pep Organ. For instance, I didn't show the Letourneau Tuba in this video, but you can listen to it here:    • Stanley: Trumpet Voluntary in D Major...

Very interesting display, Titus. When I used to deputise at the cathedral in the 80s ie before the arrival of the Létourneau, the console of the Sharp was in the chancel and was roughly to the left of where the archbishop’s throne is. At that time, the Sharp and Létourneau organs were played simultaneously by two organists wearing two way head phones. I hasten to add that they were played together only for congregational hymns, the responses and the common of the Mass. For the opening hymn, the organist at the Whitehouse would start. The organist would count aloud especially at the end of a phrase ‘hold - 2 - 3 - 4 off 2 - 3 - 4 in!’ During the Mass the organist at the Sharp would lead. The important thing was never to listen to the other organ which was being played lest you fall out of time. It was a great challenge!
  • How cool it is to see a young man like yourself so into this! That means the organ playing will be on for at least one more generation!
  • @irenemuus9716
It warms the cockles of my heart that a young person is learning and playing church organs. Thank you deeply

I majored in music...organ ...in college (started piano at age 4) and have had so much fun playing at different churches over the years., Retired now, in my 80's
  • As the daughter of someone who tuned pipe organs here in the United States I find this video fascinating!

They’re all lovely instruments. I’m an organist and each organ has its own special beauty. The chamber organ is precious. Nice for early baroque. Great for Vespers. I wish I lived there. Thanks for an inspiring video.
  • I love this video. Entertaining and educational. I used to play our church organ back in high school. I'm self-taught so it's very interesting to see different pipe organs in one place and to hear the different sounds they produce. It's quite different from the non-pipe organs. I hope I'll be able to play pipe organ someday.
  • I really enjoyed this video! I’m not an organist, but I love organ music, and cathedrals! Saint Marys Cathedral is just beautiful! What’s not to like about to Letourneau, Oregon… But my favorite was actually the small one at the beginning! Titus, you should come to America and play the great Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia! Have you heard of this one?
  • That was an excellent overview of the St Mary’s cathedral organs, Titus. I especially enjoyed your warm and appreciative remarks about the Ron Sharp organ. What an astonishing contribution Ron made to organ building in Australia! Thank you!

I used to be a church organist back in the 80's. I haven't played a real organ like this since then. This is bringing it all back for me.

Tirus, Thank you for your very confident presentation bringing these wonderful instruments alive! I've listened twice as you made it so much fun.
  • St Marys was my parish church when I was 8-9. Thanks for the opportunity to be nostalgic and leanr new things. Only played a pipe organ a few times. Loved hearing the bells too and the boys choir. We lived in Cathedral St.

He needs to allow the reverberation to decay entirely before resuming his commentary. Hearing the reverberation in a large church such as St Mary's is one of the great pleasures of hearing the organ.

Each organ has its own uniqueness I love them all I'm glad you love to play them as well and you do a fantastic job
  • Your knowledge, talent and enthusiasm for the”King or Instruments” comes through in this presentation of four great instruments.Thank you,Titus, for your excellent overview of the capabilities of each organ and views of a magnificent cathedral. A fantastic tour! I loved the Letourneau organ.
  • I am from Canada and did not know that we had a company that made these amazing organs. Our church had a new organ installed when I was a boy and in the Choir and the black keys were white and the white keys were black. So amazing and when I think of it I think it was a Canadian-made organ so beautiful. Thank you for your lovely playing and tour.! You are fantastic
  • Have a look in the cathedral in Freiburg im Breisgau. Even the famous organist Edward Power Biggs played on the four organs which can be played on on single place. It's all in a cuestion of acoustic.
