  • As i was reading about Frank's life and having this album on the background playing, my grandma approached and sat next to me, asked me to translate the page from english to our language so that she could understand. I thought it was weird because she has dementia but she seemed very interested so i tried. She couldnt understand much but as soon as autumn leaves came in she started singing with her weak sweet voice and she knew all the words! She probably thought of grandpa or her childhood because she got emotional. Grandpa loved Frank. Funny how this was a song she sang 60 years ago and now i put it on and sing it. This transcends generations
  • This shatters my heart to pieces and once all pieces recollected, I click on repeat.

This is why Sinatra is unique. He’s simply untouchable in the torch songs. His emotional depth is beyond belief.

The falling leaves drift by the window The autumn leaves of red and gold I see your lips, the summer kisses The sun-burned hands I used to hold Since you went away the days grow long And soon I'll hear old winter's song But I miss you most of all my darling When autumn leaves start to fall Since you went away the days grow long And soon I'll hear old winter's song But I miss you most of all my darling When autumn leaves start to fall

The original song is "Les Feuilles Mortes" by Joseph Kosma, published between 1949 and 1950

Sinatra's version and Nat King Cole's version are the two best I've ever heard.

Musical Impressionism. When you hear this piece, and appreciate the album cover, it feels, somehow, like 1949-1950.
