Malaria is a protozoal vector-borne disease caused by the species of Plasmodium. It is a serious disease affecting people of all ages and sexes. However, newborn and sickle cell trait have a natural resistance to Plasmodium falciparum, and people Duffy negative RBCs have a natural resistance to Plasmodium vivax.
