When Derek from VanOaks Props reached out with a challenge, we knew it was going to be good! He proposed sending us a mystery box filled with random materials and we had to build a DIY Halloween Prop from the Mystery Box materials! We sent him a box as well so be sure to check out his video.

We make a lot of Halloween crafts and projects but making one from a complete mystery box was a crazy hard challenge. We spent several days thinking up DIY Halloween prop ideas and finally decided on a miniature haunted house! We got inspired by Lemax Spooky Town Halloween Village. We've never done papercraft stuff or miniature dioramas so this was all new territory, though we could use a lot of the DIY techniques we use on our other Halloween props.

If you love Halloween DIY projects and want to see more of our DIY Halloween props, check out our playlist! We have a ton of other Halloween projects on our channel!

Thanks for watching! This was super challenging for us but we LOVE the results. Don't be afraid to challenge yourself! If you want to join our community on Facebook and/or Discord, there are links in the description!
  • It’s crazy how both you and Derek went from some random things to a full on diorama or pumpkin doll! It’s amazing! Y’all are awesome!
  • @amandaggogo
This turned out SO cool! Hard to believe the house is just cardboard! It's looks so great! The hot glue tombstones were a great idea too! Would dig to see more dioramas in the future!
  • @bk24769
That hot glue tombstone idea blew my mind! It makes so much sense, but I never thought to use hot glue in those silicone molds. Wayyy cheaper than resin!
  • @larsworld
i JUST finished watching your haunted doll house makeover! perfect timing! that one was sooo incredible, can’t wait to see this one!!!! been binging you guys, thanks for putting and keeping us in the spooky season spirit 👻
  • @Vro-
Great job! If you're a true crafter, playing with cardboard boxes never gets old! Can't wait to see what Derek did with his!
  • @mickblock
You two are unbelievable. Your craftsmanship is 10/10. This project, and how it demonstrates that something lovely and complete can be made from a pile of random objects goes a long way to demonstrate the true sprit of Halloween! The icing on the cake was using the mailer box!
  • Well this was insane! The paintjob and other accessories etc took the project to another level!
  • @MichaelPick1
My daughter and I love your shows. Please do more of the mini cardboard houses.
  • @ccm199
The hubby and I LOVED this collab! Any plans on doing a reaction to each other's videos or doing another one of these before Halloween?
  • Oh wow! I love this! Its so cute. Yes more of this. I was trying to think of a way to make a stone like urn you normally put a small tree or flowers in on your porch in front of your house. But have a human head coming out and dead flowers, branches, succulents, ivy growing out too...ideas?
  • Such an AMAZING 👏🏻 thing to see the creative process in action! Thanks for celebrating the 60 days till Halloween 🎃 and uploading this!
  • Never thought to use hot glue in a rubber mold like that before. Those tiny grave stones turned out well.
  • @holly5026
the acetone on the foam is so interesting I never knew it could do that, total game changer
  • The use of the foil ball for texture on the foam insulation was great. It takes me back a few years to using a tealight candle, and metal sculpting tools to do the same. Well done.
  • @HisandHersLA
Yes more miniatures please! The hot glue in the silicone mold is genius!
  • @MyMiaArabella
Love it! That was a lot of work, but worth it. And “YES please” to your question of more dioramas. Shadow boxes and Book Nooks too! I love those little magical worlds. Thanks for sharing your ideas and talent
  • @memal25
Wow! As always, you two didn't skip any details and made something that looks incredible! I also think you lead the video with one of the best pieces of advice for artists and it's sometimes best to sleep on an idea!
  • @nowheregirl86
This was amazing. Also, when you had her walking backwards I thought “the witch is possessed” 😂.
