The Immune System Explained I – Bacteria Infection

Published 2014-07-01
Every second of your life you are under attack. Bacteria, viruses, spores and more living stuff wants to enter your body and use its resources for itself. The immune system is a powerful army of cells that fights like a T-Rex on speed and sacrifices itself for your survival. Without it you would die in no time. This sounds simple but the reality is complex, beautiful and just awesome. An animation of the immune system.

You can now preorder the Kurzgesagt Immune System book! “IMMUNE – A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive”: kgs.link/ImmuneBook IMMUNE is a fascinating and fun journey through your own body, where we’ll be exploring mystery organs, murder universities, your enemies from viruses, bacteria and cancer (and how your immune system might have killed a cancer cell while you were reading the last few sentences) and the incredibly beautiful and amazing parts, cells and systems that keep you alive. After reading it you should not only gain a new appreciation for your own body but also experience disease differently. Also 45 illustrated pages by the Kurzgesagt team make the book very pretty.

"Ill miss you guys" "Killing stuff was the best part" Stop giving my body cells personality, you're gonna make me cry.
  • @valerians.6616
i cant believe that bacteria would just intrude into my body without my permission. that makes me sick...
  • Almost 8 years ago, 10 year old me watched this video and loved it. Now I watch it again, after finishing my immunology unit a year into my biomedical degree, and I think about how much of an impact your videos had on my life. Thank you.

“Ow! A paper cut..” Immune system: THIS. MEANS. WAR.
  • @SamirDevs
Me: gets a cut Me: Eh that’s nothing. Meanwhile... Immune System: We are in the endgame now. Edit: Guys please stop fighting about this comment being copied or not, I just had the same idea as the person I appearently ”copied” from.
  • @AdagioLab
As a student of Microbiology I thoroughly enjoyed the visual presentation. I have prior knowledge of the mechanism of the human immune system, but this general outline is marvellous because of its utter simplicity.Thank you kurzgesagt
  • @AmeVelet
This was literally what I kept thinking about when I first got hit hard with COVID back in late 2020. Just silently cheering my body on to get the job done and get well soon. Took about a week to be rid of the insane fever/headache but got better thankfully ❤
  • @1SlowYota
If the cells remember the infection does that mean they get like a bacterial vietnam flashback
  • @kurzgesagt
We are thinking of making an App for tablets out of this video. Would you like that? Did you think the visual system we developed worked? Feedback is much appreciated!
  • Wow they literally support each other, and actually fight and plan like a real army , I'm more then impressed
  • @ShreyRupani
I don't know why, but this channel has a unique ability to make me cry...
  • @WhiteSetsuna
Avengers had one of the best fight scenes. Me: Hold my microscope
  • @trashtuber6021

  • “Every second of your life you are under attack” Well that’s reassuring.
  • @Noah-rb5pe
Me: Gets cut Me: Not a big deal Immune system: Were actually fighting a war down here and committing suicide
  • @cockatoo010
