Construction work is such a dangerous job. Construction workers don’t get enough credit for what they do.
-
Prayers 🙏 for the 6 missing and their families.
-
They opted out on the installation of pylon bumpers, due to cost. I don't think they saved much. Hindsight...
-
Completely preventable, tugs should have been required to stay with ship and guide it till past this very important bridge. Two tugs guided it from loading dock to channel then left the ship on its own. This was a tragedy waiting to happen.
-
MDTA took in $56 million in tolls from this bridge alone last year. Cheap bridge that was built 47 years ago, and it didn't even have shoulders for disabled vehicles. Where does that toll money go? Where was the pier protection?
-
Hope there will be support and sympathy for the victims.
-
I'm not a bridge expert but that bridge fell apart like a bunch of Legos
-
Those poor people on the bridge. I can't imagine. It's horrifying and hurtful to hear about.
-
Baltimore is one of the largest ports in America, this will affect everyone in some way or another. Inflation will rise again if we have more supply chain disruptions.
-
This would be so terrifying to be on the bridge.
-
So they had time to stop traffic from going on the bridge but didn’t alert the construction workers?
-
I'm sorry what happened to the icon bridge and the innocent people die from bridge god blessed USA
-
Baltimore is going to have struggles as the Port brought in food for the city... I am praying this gets resolved quickly.
-
Why weren’t the construction workers warned to get off the bridge if the police blocked both sides?
-
Maybe pass a law that big ships have to have tugboats guiding them through bridges so if they lose steering they can’t plow a bridge down !! especially a bridge that doesn’t have the big concrete barriers around the bridge to protect it !
-
Okay at first I was irked thinking they want to use federal funds to fix it but I do agree that you can’t just wait for this to be settled for the funding. Whoever asked basically “why not hold them responsible” was literally the main question I had. Ultimately they better. Don’t just stick the country/state with the bill and then never come back.

"If i was the president this would of never happened, i would of stopped it by thinking about it and if it would of happen Singapore would right me check for 2 billion dollars "
-
Sadly, that reporter has never heard of physics.
-
Outside the massive weight of the ship. This proves another point of how frail our infrastructure is across the country, even when the states reap the benefits of ridiculous taxes and tolls.

We need to re-invest in America. We cannot let politicians continuously dismantle public projects with excuses about inflation or national debt, while they simultaneously enrich the most successful corporations in America with tax breaks, bailouts, subsidies, loans, grants, and other donor-friendly policies. Improving national infrastructure would reduce inflation by reducing cost of production and transport.
