First time towing the big toy hauler with the 2500 5.9 power wise the truck did really good no complaints there. Where the trucks weak point was on the maxed out leaf springs the truck was super bouncy and definitely needs air bags before I tow it again! Let me know what videos you want to see next sorry for not posting in a while will have more consistent uploads.

I had a 05 3500 single wheel with a 6 speed. I remember I had to haul a dozer for some Amish. It had to have been 25k lbs at least. Every time I would take off and shift gears the whole truck would twist and bottom out the rear suspension lol. It’s crazy how capable these trucks are. The engines just pull whatever you hook to them. Nice truck man

I appreciate the honest description of the ride. Too many glorify their rigs, which doesn't help everyone else. 07 mega 5.9 here.
  • As far as the loose steering I ran across the same problem. Forced me to further inspect the steering and front suspension components. I found excessive play on the sector shaft of my Gearbox and play on the Ball Joints.. Obviously this really presented itself when I had the tongue weight on the back. The fix was Red Head Gear box with a Sector shaft support and Dynatrac ball Joints. I have pretty much the same Stryker trailer that I pull with my 1 ton.

My 06 with a bully dog tuner towed like a beast, and it was a 3500 single wheel no squat hardly at all, or add u some air bags she do good themselves great motors ,mine still going great 361,000

Nice truck get yourself some 3500 springs and balance the weight over the trailer axles to loose toung weight. Install a thermostaticly controlled 1,000 BTU transmission oil cooler under the bed so it will last 200K instead of 90K miles. Low speed towing will destroy your transmission because the torque converter is not locked and boils fluid.

We’ve pulled 22,000 lbs of hay with a 2005 3500. That’s not maxed dodge just recommends you don’t go over 12k

Why is it that I am the only one with the Graphite Metallic and screwed up clear coat? Love the rig, thanks for sharing it!!

Just pulled a keystone 40 footer 5hrs down the road, weighing in at 14,000 lbs . lol barely made it on stock tune 😂

Did u ever put bags? I got a 4th gen dually never needed them for mine. Just wondering about yours. Stay safe!
  • I think there still is a lot to learn my friend. But nice work. btw your gvw is what the trailer could weigh if it were loaded to capacity.

26'-28' max length camper on a bumper style hitch. I would sell that camper and buy a fifth wheel camper and hitch. Then do another review. Get weiggt over the axles, it will ride better also. 😎

I got an 05 at the off-road package with the lower gears pulls like a champ up hill but screams rpms on the highway

LOL gvwr is the max the trailer is rated to hold when fully loaded if you put the right ammount of weight in it. it could easily have weighed well over that or well under that depending on whats inside. being a toy hauler it prob has 2000-3000 lb of payload on that trailer meaning its in the 7-8k lb range or possibly even less with no water in it or stuff. that truck also needs air bags. i tow the same weight in my 12 valve and that squat is crazyyy in this vid lol

Man this is just the video I was looking for , we recently purchased a 36 foot camper , it's a 2003 cedar Creek , and my son barowed his 5500 work truck to pull it for me , I have a 1500 ram , and trying to find a truck locally is difficult now , I'm going to look at a 2500 with the 5.9 in the morning but it's lifted and I don't know if the tires are the correct load range , but just a little bit ago I found a 3500 Ram that's stock with a 5.9 Cummins and has a rebuilt transmission in it , hopefully I can get that one .

Transfer a bit more with the WDH and that would have helped a bunch.
  • You don't have it set up right, 10,000 trailer is nothing, for a diesel truck, that tongue weight on that trailer is between 800 and 1,000 lbs that's nothing for a 3/4 ton truck, your hitch on the truck was to high, the truck and trailer should be level that's why it rode the way it did

Well I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins and the Max tow and payload back then for the Quad Cab 4x4 auto was 2,400 # Payload and 13,300 # max tow for the SLT auto. The 6 speed manual actually towed about 500 # less on paper than the auto so I don’t understand that, but that’s what the manual says. I feel most people that buy 3/4 Tons trucks should actually be buying a 1 Ton and not a 3/4 Ton. I got friends towing 30K with their 3/4 Ton Dodges and I do not agree with that at all. This will all come to a haunt soon because Trucks are going to start coming with some sort of scale on it so that if you overload your truck or tow to much it will void your warranty and I don’t think the dealer will even be allowed to work on it at all. I think the DMV or whoever is getting tired of scraping body parts of the road because people are pulling 30K with a truck that has a max rating of 20K.

What's the difference from towing an over drive when u click the button again from when u put it in gear I just wonder when I'm hauling anything heavy should I use towing or overdrive?
  • @chucks9516
Ive pulled a fith wheel toyhauler that weighed over 13K with my 03 Dodge Cummins 2500. Airbags eliminate the bouncing going down the road.
