    You have to know the North Sea intimately to get the real picture. The Norh Sea is a part of the North Atlantic Ocean pushed through a Venturi. The Venturi is the coast of Norway and the one of England. There, because of difference in draft, currents and wind, crazy waves are build up when the wind increases to seastate 6 - 7.
