One Wife and Her Three Husbands: How is their Life? The Polyandry Culture in Tibet(Full Documentary)

Published 2021-08-06
Tashi Delek!

Have you ever heard of a Polyandry Family?

It is a rare form of marriage that still exists in some remote areas in Tibet.

In ancient times, Tibetans believed that the family of one wife with more than one husband could gather more wealth, and such a big family could survive better in this harsh land.

Today, I will show you a daily life of a polyandry family, who live in a remote village in Sakya County, which is 400kw west of Lhasa. It consists of a wife, her 3 husbands, 5 children, and her parents. You will learn about each member’s role in the family and how the big family makes a living.

Now, come with me to see this typical polyandry family united by love and loyalty.

Thanks for supporting me. Every encouragement and sponsorship from you is the driving force for me to continue to shoot and explore the beautiful Tibet. If men can do it ,then so can women 😂😂 . It’s always the man with 3 wives . I am happy I came across this video. 🙏
  • She have 3 husbands, she’s doing mostly all the chores in the house and serving everybody in the family including the elders. That’s a lot of work… wow!

I remember my 1st year philosophy course: "nothing is wrong in nature; only we humans say good or bad". May God fulfill all their healthy life!!!

Thanks for this interesting video. I don’t know if this woman is lucky to have 3 husbands. She seemed to work from dawn to dusk - doing all the household chores, cooking meals, looking after the children etc. One good thing- there doesn’t seem to be jealousy or rivalry amongst the 3 husbands. The family including the parents in law seemed happy & contented. They function well as a family unit. God bless them.

Even after having three husbands, the woman is still doing most of the work and taking more responsibilities 🙂
  • No television. No computers. The whole family sitting together at dinner time. I remember those days.

I love how the men and women all work together to take care of the home and family. It’s unfortunately uncommon to see a husband willingly help a wife with sewing/weaving and other household chores.

I always wanted 3 husbands…. and this is the first time I’ve seen a poly family where it is not weird, it’s not creepy, I don’t feel anything wrong or sickening abuse around this arrangement. It’s like the most healthy positive poly life I’ve ever seen. awesome 😊

Such a hardworking woman.. cooking, cleaning, farming, weaving.. Hats off !!!
  • The respect and kindness shown to this family by the maker of this video is amazing. Beautiful video and family.

They seem very happy and wealthy compared to others. They have it all covered, a Doctor, a Shepard to take care of the families large and valuable goat herd and now a University graduate to assist with teaching the kids. Always a husband at home and the wife is the head of the family. It really works for them.

It is amazing to see this, A polyandry family! A working one, a tradition. It's beautiful! Then the home is beautiful, the village, amazing machines, the kitchen, these people are inventive. I love this

Whatever gives her life meaning, I'm all for it. She seems peaceful. It also looks like everyone respects everyone and they work together as a unit for the good of the family.
  • @Xavier-ho4qr
She is easily the most important person in the family.

I loved watching this video. I enjoy seeing how different cultures live around the world and I have so much admiration for this family. They all seem very happy and work as a team. Even if someone like myself from western society may not understand it fully. It's not for me to judge, only for me to respect that people around the world have differences and that's what makes life so beautiful.
  • @DidiMd
A culture of tolerant n mutual respect
  • They are living with what they have and know for hundreds of years. They all looked happy and stress free living in their own beautiful world. Good luck to them.
  • No jealousy, no hate , no killing each other. Just living well with happiness. Woman power.
  • My favorite part of this documentary was seeing the whole family enjoying dinner and the singing after dinner.
