So today we’re at it again. You asked for it and now we’re delivering the goods. We’re telling the stories of even more artists who rejected Weird Al Yankovic…the king of musical comedy’s parody requests. Including one musician who was a fan but just couldn’t say yes. Another who decades later still regrets saying “no.” And the story of how one artist single-handedly sabotaged the sales of one of Al’s albums. Call it karma or sweet revenge, but somehow Al always seems to get a little payback in the end… in the nicest way possible. After all, Weird Al is a pretty nice guy. So stick around for 5 Weird Al rejections that will have you questioning the sanity of these artists… NEXT on the Professor of Rock.

So you asked for it. You got it! In the last Weird Al Rejections episode I offered to release a follow-up if you wanted it. And the response was overwhelming. You wanted it. Viewer after viewer said “yes.” How could I say no” But for some reason today’s artists did say “no.” And it just doesn’t make any sense. Last time it was McCartney, Prince, MJ, Weezer, and Coolio. This time it’s five more rejectors, plenty more parodies, and a few surprises along the way… And guess what, the Purple One is back for this episode, in a sort of roundabout sort of way… So strap in, because our flight into the Weird Al universe starts now… beginning with the mothership of rock: at #5 we have: Led Zeppelin.

So Weird Al has definitely confirmed that he is a fan of the mighty Zeppelin. And believe it or not, at least one member of the Led Zeppelin crew is a fan of Weird Al as well: the great Jimmy Page. So if Al likes Zeppelin and Zeppelin likes Al, what’s the problem here? Why are the lords of rock virtually missing from Weird Al’s catalog? In the Ask Al Archive on Yankovic’s website, we get the answer. One fan asked Al if he was into Zeppelin and suggested doing a parody of Stairway to Heaven or Dazed and Confused, or maybe a Zeppelin polka. And as it turns out, the thought had definitely crossed Weird Al’s mind. In response Al answered, “Oddly enough, a few years ago Jimmy Page called my office to get some copies of my videos, so I knew he was a fan. Unfortunately, when I asked him shortly after that how he’d feel about my doing a Led Zeppelin polka medley… he was less than thrilled with the prospect. So I didn’t pursue it.”

Man, an entire polka medley devoted to Zeppelin. That would've been an epic cheese-fest. It’s a bummer that never happened, but the good news is that Al parodied Led Zeppelin anyway… In concert in the 80s and the 90s Al performed a compilation of songs called the

I remember hearing how shocked he was at hearing that VH-1 selected him to do a Behind The Music show. His exact words were "I've never slept with a band member, I've never crippled a band member, I've never stayed in my boat for 3 days on a heroin binge, I've never had to deal with weight problems, I've never slept with so many women that I lost count, I've never lip-synced my songs, except in music videos, I never was an alcoholic, I never was a poster child for marijuana smoking, I never married my 13-year-old cousin.......SO WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!!"...................playfully, of course.

I still wonder why Al never did "Livin' la Vida Polka".
  • The thing about White and Nerdy is that, not only was it hilarious, but Al also showed that he had incredible rapping skills. Would love a deep dive on that one.

Weird Al is a National Treasure and should be the Superbowl Halftime Artist. He could play Sports Song.

Pluses of being super old (57). I was listening to Dr. Demento as far back as 1978 when he was on KMET. I still remember hearing Weird Al doing 'My Bologna' the first time! I was immediately hooked!
  • It blows my mind that the biggest artist of the timeMichael Jackson was okay with being spoofed but so many others thought it was below them.
  • @TerrickTerran
White and Nerdy being my favorite song I would love a deep dive.
  • @malcolmr3
I never have understood that artists don’t realize that having Al do a parody of one of your songs was a sign that you had “made it”. It’s truly an honor and salute from Al.
  • I think of "White and Nerdy" and "All About the Pentiums" as two sides of the same geeky coin.
  • @flpndrox
And now Al performing "You're Pittiful" in his concert medleys with an Atlantic Records Sucks T-shirt makes more sense.
  • Of course we want a video on "White and Nerdy"! I don't listen to any pop music now, so I don't know any of the original songs Al parodies now, but he's still the biggest musical genius of all time. More, please.
  • @HeavyTopspin
The best dig at Prince was in the song Word Crimes: "...you should never write words using numbers, unless you're seven or your name is Prince!"
  • @misrpint
I laugh every time Donnie dances. He's the perfect choice that only Al would think of.
  • @christineml1476
Are you kidding? I would pay - and beg, I have no dignity - Weird Al to cover one of my songs. I'm still waiting for the Weird Al / Michael Winslow duet. We need to make it happen.
  • @rick420buzz
"You're Pitiful" is still available to download. It is now track 13 on my "Straight Out Of Lynwood" folder.
  • @BaddogSports
Always got a big laugh out of “Another One Rides the Bus” 😂😂
  • @fredgroenke2586
I DVR Jeopardy every so for me, “I lost on Jeopardy” will always be my favorite Weird Al parody.
