VTEC kicks in at 4k RPM all the way to a redline of 8.6k RPM.
"VTEC (which stands for Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is an electronic and mechanical system in some Honda engines that allows the engine to effectively have multiple camshafts. As the engine moves into different rpm ranges, the engine's computer can activate alternate lobes on the camshaft and change the cam's timing. In this way, the engine gets the best features of low-speed and high-speed camshafts in the same engine."

It's still so much more satisfying to hear on the older gens. It still sounds good though on the new ones. That pop though is dramatic on the older gens.

OH MAN the memories!... The hondata tune transforms the car. The original engagement from factory at 5600 rpms was brutal. Became such a fun little car at 4000rpm afterwards. I've owned many other great after including a 500hp Evo X but still miss that little car.

The sheer vibration at 8000 revs just gives you an idea of how much these engines endure when ragging the living daylight out of it

i'm a motorcycle (specifically cruisers and tourings) kinda guy, but even with a sound as amazing as a honda magna i can't deny that a VTEC actually sounds pretty damn cool!
