A ton!😯😯😯😯 I have only seen similar size Beasts at a Walmart or Mcdonalds.
  • Clyde is not the largest bear on record. The largest bear on record was a polar bear which tipped the scales at over 2,200 lbs and unlike Clyde, it was not obese.

I seen Clyde in 1980. He was huge, but obese. He stood on all 4rs with his front legs in front of his shoulders to support his weight. I learned to not make eye contact with a bear( Clyde). He came up to the cage when I made eye contact with him. The look on his face said it all.

I remember Clyde. The first time I saw them, it was Bonnie and Clyde. He was a big, sweet monstrous bear. He found it entertaining to rattle his cage and roar at the zoo visitors. The last time I saw him he was lounging in his pool. His huge head was sticking out as he lazily gazed over at us.

He was massively obese, and 22 is not really old for a grizzly. Lots of the Katmai National Park bears is 28-30 years old.

"He called the Dakota zoo home". I'm sure he called it his prison!
  • I have seen many bears when I was a child but I have never seen such a big bear as this. He is magnificent.

i've seen one at 2000 pounds back in the late 80's on a field trip in grammar school. you're right it's literally a car that thing was massive compared to the other bears in that zoo .. I forget the exact name of the zoo , but it was in North new Jersey.. I just looked it up space farms zoo and museum.. they had a few Kodiak's at the time one was named Goliath. he was over 2000 pounds, he was the largest bear in the world at one time He died in 91 but yeah, that must've been him. I remember the name after looking it up.. but yeah, that was a fun class trip. I believe it was a seventh or eighth grade class trip 1988.
  • Clyde would have lived to be 30 if he lost about 700 pounds. I live in Alaska. Bears are just eating machines. They will even eat other bears and bull moose.
  • Not necessarily the "largest" by wild standards, just the heaviest and most obese. I would argue that a 1500 lb wild specimen in peak condition would be "larger" subjectively and possibly objectively in terms of non-weight measures like height, reach, paw width, and the like.

People seem far more concerned about a poster s' grammar than what they have to say. No excuse for rudeness. Glad to see a lot of people here feel the same way.
