This is insane. Here I am 24 years old, going nowhere, and 9 year old Jason already has his own place and the burden of being a homeowner. I’m disgusted with myself

When a 9 year old kid has more common sense than the HOA.

I’m a burglar and I have to say, thank you so much to HOAs like this one that help someone like me make a living stealing things from residents.

This kid will never be a politician. He tells the truth, and he does it very well.
  • Garage doors are meant to be closed. This is utterly insane. Should be illegal.

That boy looks like he's been a property owner for the last 25 years
  • A HOA has no power to make people do this. Totally out of control and the HOA should be sued.

props to Jason for owning his first home before the age of 9
  • As a highly active thief, not only do I agree with the HOA but need to apply this rule to all communities ASAP.

I will not pay hundreds of thousands of dollars just for someone to tell me what to do with my property. Screw HOA.
  • Leaving the garage door open seems like the OPPOSITE of what an HOA would want

Remember kids, a group of Karens is called a Home Owners Association
  • There’s a 50 year old man living in that 9 year old’s body.☝️🥴

Just let the kid do what he wants with his house, he's clearly the homeowner
  • I think this is a brilliant idea. Since getting out of prison after quite a lengthy sentence I find I'm not as mobile as I used to be. Gone are the days when I could wriggle in through a window. This situation is really giving me a new lease of life and I applaud the consideration given to accessibility. Now I can just rock up in my mobility scooter and help myself. Genius!

It's like buying a house that is not yours. 😂

The president of the HOA is probably selling their neighbors' stuff online.

This kid is just trying to earn a living, support his wife and kids, and have some toys to scoot around on during his time off... and the HOA has to poke their nose in and cause problems.

Thank you HOA for making the residents' privacy void! It lets us know what people have in their garages worth stealing to ensure we make calculated intrusions. You're the best!

So I had to look this up. And as usual, there’s more to the story. 1. The HOA rescinded the policy after all the pushback and press. 2. Jalopnik website, referring to a Sacramento Bee article behind a paywall, quotes a landlord in the neighborhood stating that the houses in the HOA are fourplexes with carports maintained by the HOA. However some residents installed overhead doors turning the carports into garages - apparently in violation of the rules. A resident was caught illegally allowing someone else to live in his garage, and instead of forcing residents to remove the garage doors the HOA came up with the rule that the doors must stay open during daytime. If this is accurate, it puts a much different spin on the whole situation.
