High Country Brown Bears, Alaska Brown Bear Hunting

Published 2020-02-06
From the Modern Day Mountain Man collection:
Wedged between the windswept Pacific and the frigid Bering Sea, the Alaska Peninsula is a raw, merciless land dominated by majestic mountains and arguably the largest bears in the world. Veteran big game guide, Billy Molls, leads his clients on two classic adventures as this savage wilderness and its iconic brown bears test the strength, challenge the skill, and whittle away the
resolve of both guide and hunter. With a new spring blossoming, both land and sea come alive. Caribou give birth to their calves, while the wolf and wolverine prowl for their next meal. Sows warily lead their cubs to feed on the first green shoots as boars scour the landscape tirelessly in search of a mate. Danger, breathless stalks, heart-stopping encounters, utter disappointment, and the elation of success in this time-forgotten land make this an unforgettable saga.

The only negative thing I can say about Billy’s videos is it takes the enjoyment out of watching other hunting videos. Billy’s are the best.

Billy, noticed this video of my bear hunt with you is up over 700,000 views. That is awesome. I have had several people I have met in the airport that have come up to me and said aren't you the hunter on that bear movie that Billy put up on Youtube. So 2 days ago I had a hunter from Pakistan send me a FB private message and reconnected so to speak. He was hunting with the same outfitter that I was hunting with back in September 2013 near Dillingham AK for grizzly bear. He got his bear before I did and had already flown home by the time I finished and we never were able to stay in contact until now. Small World Indeed.

You know how all hunters build a strong bond with the ones they share the woods with. Sometimes too strong. Back in 2007 I buried a great friend of mine not knowing what an impact it would have on me. 2 months later I was in a tree opening day of archery. I couldn’t do it, I never finished the hunt, just climbed down and never talked about it until today, right now. The amount of respect you have for the land, the animals, and the wind that can be your friend or foe. You rustled up some great memories I put away long long ago. Thank you so much for that.
  • Never mind the adrenaline of the hunt and the thrill of the chase - the photography in this video is off the chart! Well done!
  • What a wonderful experience to go on this bear hunt with you. I'll never make it to Brown Bear Country, never walk the ridges and valleys there, never get to camp at the foothills by the ocean and shelter from the rain under a tarp for days on end. But this video allows me to do so vicariously. Thank you for the respectful attitude you showed in harvesting this blonde eared King of the Land. An animal so old and accomplished is to be honored and respected for all he represents. I can smell all the smells of your hunt, feel the wind on my face, and share your excitement of the harvest. I hunt only for food. I am opposed to 'big game' hunting, as such. So, again, thank you for the honorable manner in which you sent our Brother home. At 76, TEXAS Girl. 🇺🇸🇨🇱🇺🇸

You can’t help but get closer to God and the wonder of it all. I haven’t been bear hunting but I know that special feeling you get whether in the middle of the desert after a rain or riding your Harley through the mountains. God is so wonderful.

    Billy,
You sir are one of if not the best guides/filmmakers that exists these days. Your faith and conviction is only icing on the cake
  • Wise words from an Alaskan moose guide, “If your bull dies in water, your life sucks for about 3 days.”
  • I drew a tag for Unimak island. I think only four permits are issued for the island.
I certainly agree, the brown bear is the most everything hunt. Expensive and exhilarating. Very good opportunity for a real ten footer or better. Not many people get this opportunity. I took a 10’6” brownie. The best hunt of my life. 😃👍👍

That second hunt was as humane as it gets. You let the old boy finish before you took him.He spent the day wandering around eating and finished the day "getting some".He had a great last day! Excellent video! I love watching the hunt and not just the shooting, you do a great job.
  • Billie I had the pleasure of seeing your new video of the the father and son shooting brown bears in the creeks. Your are the outfitter I enjoy watching most . May the Lord bless you and your family.MBB

The best silk screen I've seen was a man climbing rocks with a large pack loaded with a big elk rack on it with the words beneath it "Oh, you lift! That cute!!"

Whenever I get stressed-out, I watch a Billy Molls mini-adventure; within minutes, I am lost and stress free. Billy is such a patient and methodical hunter and guide. - N Idaho -
  • I love that you always show the airplane footage. Something about it just brings it all together. GREAT stuff as always.
  • @cshehwen
You’re living the life. I enjoy watching/listening to these videos while driving my semi truck. It’s a stress reliever. Thanks!
  • @craigfuhr
Honestly - one of the greatest hunting videos I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I was wondering why it was so darn long, then was sorry to see it end. Billy, if you EVER doubt the gifts that God has given you, watch this video. You know freedom in ways that most men dream of, but will never know.

Why would anyone give this a thumbs down? Good people doing what they Love. God Bless America !! Watch a good sitcom on tv then.
  • @SteveSnowman
I think that Billy is a highly skilled hunting technician when it comes to bringing hunter and game together. Patience is a virtue.
