In this episode, we sit down with reformed career criminal Stephen Gillen, once a feared gang boss in London’s east end, Gillen spent the first nine years of his life in Belfast, after moving from London. Raised by his auntie during the height of the Troubles in the late 70s, Gillen, unfortunately, saw a young man shot right in front of him. The experience was more harrowing as the young man called for his mum while blood bubbled from his dying lips. What followed was a life of organized crime and time served at her majesty’s pleasure. Imprisoned in a high-security special unit reserved for dangerous inmates, Gillen served alongside notorious armed robber Charles Bronson in the cell next door who the British press dubbed the "Most violent prisoner in Britain"

Stay tuned to learn exactly how he did.

Great interview, you ask great questions, and when you took him back to his Aunt... Fantastic.

I was in Lowdham Grange in 2005 with Ste we had some good times there.
  • Good interview ! No interruptions, the man can speak his mind. Love how he talks about the shit list and how he seems drawn to look at the bad things about his self or others and work with that. Turning weakness into strength is something that always spoke to me. Tried this many times, not always with success but when you do succeed, it really makes your life better plus : you have a strength where once you had a weakness.
  • Stumbled across this interview by accident. Gotta say was an awesome interview, a lot of YouTube interviewers could learn from this guy who actually allows his guests to talk. 👍

Very gracious of Stephen to sign all the way through while he was interviewed.
  • Great conversation, I really enjoyed this story! It's incredible that Stephen has been able to turn his life around! It goes to show that it's never too late to make an impactful change in your life.
  • I saw the title and nearly dismissed it. The fact Shaun didn’t have to say anything for half hour!!! Superb podcast ..superb Shaun well done.

It’s so true the saying that “one’s a product of their environment “…. having grown up in Belfast with all the sectarian violence living it breathing it makes one immune to violence along with the daily struggle of life…. great life story goes to prove it’s never to late for change redemption and be a productive member of society….
