A mother and father in Scioto County, Ohio stand trial in the death of their infant son. Young Dylan Groves was found dead 30 feet down a well last year, prosecutors said. Authorities blame the boy’s parents–mother Jessica Groves, and father Daniel Groves–for what happened. The defendants are charged with aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse, and four counts of felonious assault.

Problems stemmed right from Dylan’s day of birth on January 10, 2019. The boy was born with drugs in his system, authorities claim. Daniel Groves later got the child back after showing that he followed regulations, but the defendant allegedly started missing important dates, including court dates and doctor’s appointments.

Investigators claim that both defendants bolted on a four-wheeler when authorities dropped by the home for a checkup on May 20, according to WLTW. Deputies obtained a search warrant, got Jessica Groves to give herself up quickly, but Daniel Groves was only arrested after a six-hour standoff. Authorities said they found $42,000 of stolen items at the residence, and later found the late infant in a well.

Deputies said Dylan Groves didn’t even make it to a full three months of age. They claim there’s evidence showing he’d been dead since March.

A coroner determined that the victim had been slain. The child sustained several bone fractures, had been wrapped in plastic bags with duct tape, then put in milk crates that were wrapped in chains, and other bindings, according to WSAZ. The creates were weighted down with rocks and a weight, authorities said. As in his birth, Groves died with drugs in his body, according to the coroner. This allegedly included methamphetamine.

I’m sorry but I have no sympathy for these parents and I’ve been in their shoes. I had been an opiate addict for 12 years and found out at 3 months I was pregnant. The day the doctors told me I was pregnant I stopped using drugs got on medication assisted treatment to get me off the heroin and I also stopped smoking cigarettes. My son is about to be 6 years old he is healthy and happy and I owe him my life because he is what saved me from my addiction. I work in the field now and I see pregnant addicts all the time but none of them kill their children. Addiction doesn’t create murderers. These people are selfish monsters with out without their addiction.

I’m glad baby Dylan encountered several loving, caring humans before he died. Bless these nurses and the foster mom 😔

The way Ms. Howell smiles when she talks about her little buckets and when she sets up all her supples, you can tell she loves what she does and she loves taking care of the little angels. Such a beautiful soul

It seems the courtroom needs better microphones. I’ve never heard a case where the judge or attorneys have to ask witnesses to speak up so much.

I was shocked when that nurse said they see drug addicted newborns daily. My gosh, that is the saddest thing ever. Some people are so selfish & cruel.

These nurses are too pure for this work. Imagine getting into a career because you love babies and mommies and the miracle of life, and then you spend your days delivering drug-addicted babies. I hope they have good support systems in their lives.

Noticing the faithful and steady foster dad sitting back there bearing the grief through the entire trial.

Why was this child allowed to go home with the parents????
  • This nurse is well educated and knowledgeable about her field. I am impressed with her testimony.

The nurse, Ms Liles, is definitely a young lady in the correct profession. Her caring and kindness come through even though she's a witness in a murder trial. A truly beautiful spirit. Any patient of hers is very fortunate!

Why WHY???? Would they give this baby back to them? Daniel Groves stated “she did heroin two days ago” and she was positive for methamphetamine!!! Baby Dylan was positive for Morphine, Meth, Fentanyl! He was in the care of a loving, nurturing woman. Why??!! Reprehensible!!!!

I sincerely hope that their teenage son winds up being emotionally stable as an adult.
