Religion & Death at Gettysburg | History Traveler Episode 127

Part 2 of the Gettysburg Series

When people think of the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg, they typically think of Gen. John Burford and his position in the cupola on the first day of the battle. But the seminary is much more than that. Not only was it a microcosm of the larger struggle prior to the Civil War, but it was also one of the first field hospitals during the Battle of Gettysburg. In this episode, we're exploring the larger role that the seminary played during the battle and showing some of the horrors that were seen inside of its walls.
