For once, YouTube recommended me the right thing.

When I was a security guard way back when, I used to play this all the time. I understood how the numbers worked when locating the mines but didn't know clicking a number cleared spaces. I also used options to increase the size of the board. I was a minesweeper addict at the time. Almost zen-like when I played for hours.

Last year, after playing this game on the very old computer I had for hours upon hours, I accidentally pressed a random square and actually won the entire game - just by clicking that one square. In like 1 second. I have no idea how that happened, but it was the greatest feeling of accomplishment I ever had. And I have never won a single Minesweeper game ever after that.

Ah, the memories. This is a nice explanation. I actually figured this out on my own and got good. Thanks for teaching the newer generations how to play this wonderful little game.
