Holloman AFB. Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Saturday May 7th, 2022.
Pilot: Kristin “Beo” Wolfe

Please note: This is an air show, NOT a real life scramble. They can go much faster than this if they wanted too. There is NO reason to hurry. She also had to wait for other show performers to move off the taxi way, which is common at almost every air show. If the start up process is too long for you, I provided timestamps above so you can go exactly where you please. The whole point of this extended video is to get behind the scenes and show something you don't see in most videos.

First time watching this demonstration of the F-35A, and yes, a remarkable show of this aircraft's capabilities. I am a retired Air Force veteran who spent my entire career as an F-16 Crew Chief. I also spent six years as an FTD instructor who taught safety in every hour of instruction. As I watched the ground crew conduct the recovery I watched in disbelief. Crew Chief Assistance placed himself in a hazardous situation when he approached the main landing gear tire to place the grounding chocks. In all my years recovering aircraft, you were constantly instructed to follow all safety protocols, and this airman disregarded one major safety violation. Upon landing, the brakes produce tremendous heat and can cause the tire to explode. Because of this, the person installing the chocks is taught to approach the tire from either the front or rear of the tire. There is a 45-degree cone shape that if the tire explodes, the rim and brake metals will travel outward on both sides in the cone shape; thus, the reason to approach the tire from front or rear to place the chocks. Yes, an End of Runway crew safes the aircraft before arriving at the recovery location, but as the pilot taxis back, they are using the brakes to control the speed and can produce enough heat to explode the tire assembly. So when I watched the second member stand and inspect the tire assembly within the 45-degree shape (side of the tire), it shocked me that this is a standard procedure for the demonstration team. I have seen tires on aircraft explode 30 minutes after the aircraft was recovered, and believe me when I say it was a scary situation. I have also seen pictures of a deceased airman after being killed by an exploding tire assembly. I hope someone under the supervision of that demonstration team changes this bad practice before someone is injured or killed.

Major "Beo" Wolfe just came to California this past weekend & I had a chance to meet her & she was great. Met the entire crew in a dinner from some tickets I won for the event, and they were also all amazing to talk to. She put on an absolutely great show both Saturday and Sunday and it was an honor to be a part of it. Thanks for taking (and posting) a much better looking and sounding video than I did with my phone.

Man... what a plane! She looks awesome! Thanks for posting this!
  • This is a fabulous video, of a fabulous young woman who is SO in command of her aircraft, and making it do things you wouldn't think possible.... Thank you! 😊 I'm fortunate though in that I work on-base at RAF Lakenheath, UK, (in the BX), and frequently see our pilots doing stunning manoeuvres in both F35's and F15E's almost on a daily basis..... when I see some of the moves they make on take-off, and on landing/false landings - turns and back-flips that you wouldn't think possible - you can't fail to realise that these men and women that fly these things are just incredible people, and yet, as the lady said in the video... "just lot's of practice" is all any would say!! 👏 But I didn't know they had a handbrake in the F35's....never seen an aircraft drift quite like an F35....!!! 😆 Thanks to all in our military; UK, Europe, US, for your service.....
  • those are awesome jets. lived near the AFB in Layton UT so saw them flying around all the time, they are very loud!
  • I was at that show. I'll never forget meeting the pilot Major Beo Wolfe and all the crew. My son in law Jon Whelan is the crew chief for the demo F35. An unforgettable experience.
  • Excellent! Thanks for the video. As a Canadian citizen I'm extremely pleased with the acquisition of the F35 . That's where the future of Air Force resides .
  • Love the Sound of Jet Engines, Esp. in F-35's, Listen to all that Airflow trying to get sucked in the Air Duct's.... Also, Beo Wolfe is an Awesome Pilote, Much Respect for HEr Service in the USA and abroad...

I am gratified to see amazing skill displayed by her excellent piloting ability to fly world's most advanced all around fighter jet, F-35A. I visited Holloman AFB back in 2005 and I think there was a German squadron stationed there that time. Very nice base. Yesterday and today Travis AFB, Ca. also had an air show and since I live nearby, went to see the show and saw F-35A at the show, flying just like here with similar maneuvers. Yes, it is very loud and announcer was saying it is capable to put up 9G force. This is a truly amazing plane. No wonder many of them are already sold to many foreign nations, including Japan and will be a great fighter for many years for the preservation of freedom despite others may criticize. Air Force is celebrating 75th years anniversary since became separate branch in 1947. I served in the Air Force also and I graduated from tech school back in 1972, which was 25th anniversary year. U.S. Air Force can not be beaten by any other nation because we have the highest skilled pilots and above all, best fighting equipments, including F-35s , F-22 and above all, believe in preservation of freedom no matter what.
