My family and I managed to catch an extremely rare event on camera during our recent trip to the Samburu National Reserve in Kenya. We knew it was something special when our guide's mouth dropped open as soon as the lions jumped onto the crocodile. Take a look!

Many thanks to the beautiful Saruni Samburu lodge and to our incredible guide, Sambara.

Our safari was arranged for us by Gamewatchers Safaris, based in Kenya: www.porini.com

An elaboration on the "tech issue" in particular that we had at the start of the second fight: we never planned to shoot video on this trip because we had no idea we'd see something this awesome. As a result, the memory cards we brought weren't equipped to deal with such high quality video (1080p at 60fps). We faced a choice - capture maybe a quarter of the second fight on video and miss the rest, or cut our losses and take stills of the second fight. It is what it is, and I wish I could go back and change it, but we were lucky to even see this in the first place!

I like how between the fights, animals just chill out some times, like they mutually agree to a timeout

When predators fight, we all win! Sincerely, Gazelle.

and that was a teen croc, fought brave tho against a pack of lions. Its no wonder crocs and sharks are two of the most ancient predators that survived
  • What if animals act like that only when they see humans to trick them, but when humans are not around, they'd be dancing and singing "The circle of life".....

that croc just defended against 3 lions. Thats badass. I love crocs.
  • that croc probably saying "why they fuck did I leave home today?" lol

Love this video ...our country is amazing there many national parks where this kind of thing happens.
  • That's unfair. The water was shallow and it was 1 on 3 fight. Despite that the croc fought bravely. Take a bow ❤️.. Crocs are the best.. My respect to prehistoric beasts.

Your video has gone on Brazilian television, Congratulations! Great Battle.

Thanks for sharing this, Kai. Great stuff!

Notice how the lions never strike at the Croc alone. Croc put up a damn good fight. If it was a little bigger and more mature the Lions would have been toast.

that croc won, 1v3 and that croc still over powered them

Terrible to have missed the video on the 2nd fight which seemed to be much more intense, but thank you regardless for this footage. It's better to always be prepared with the larger memory card in such situations like these, better safe than sorry. The 2nd fight might have even garnered you more $$$ in licensing fees if you had captured the full video.

3 lions vs 1 croc isn't a fair fight. The needed at least 2 more lions lol. Lions might be "king of the jungle" but crocodiles have no king.
