More energy, less cost, and lower risk of battery degradation, Now isn't that music to any manufacturer using lithium-ion batteries? And if that isn't the holy grail of battery technology, a company called Sila Nanotechnologies has gone one step further to create a battery with nano-engineered silicon replacing graphite in the anode. The result is a more powerful battery and one of the most significant innovations in battery chemistry in the past few decades.

Never since the 1990s appearance of lithium and cobalt-based batteries for Sony Walkman has there been a more significant change in Battery technology than what Sila Nanotechnologies has just created. In a battery consumer market already congested with innovations and new technology, the silicon anode-based battery is all set to be a game-changer in battery chemistry. It is enormous, and the entire industry is abuzz with what the new battery can do. Not only will it reduce costs and be a safer battery, but it will also increase energy density by a whopping 50 percent.

Sila's new lithium-ion battery has gone beyond concept and implementation mode. It has been integrated into California wearables giant, Whoop's latest health and fitness tracker, the Whoop 4.0. Powered by Sila, the Whoop 4.0 takes on a much more attractive color in the industry. While Sila has been relentlessly working towards boosting energy stored in lithium-ion batteries, the Whoop fitness tracker is indeed a major advancement of Sila's vision towards a much more sustainable and renewable energy future. Of course, the new battery will give small gadgets a boost in range, but hey, don't ever underestimate the Sila Battery. It isn't just targeted at small devices, and the company is exploring using its chemistry for electric vehicle batteries too.

Great video! A summary of the abstract part of any pending patent applications would be nice.

There are no second places, why invest in a 50% higher capacity chemistry when +100% and + 200% chemistries are in small scale production now, like Lyten you mention and others like SES battery?

So what’s the competitive advantage of Sila over SILIon that Tesla purchased? Did Tesla buy it to make way for Sila since the founder was a former Tesla CEO?
  • The reality seems to be all batteries in every different brand of EV has basically the same performance.
  • @targetguy777
tesla just bought out a company similar to this one.

You may not like it, but sodium and iron based batteries are the future
