This guy’s hypnotic. I was looking for something else entirely before I realized I was twenty-six minutes into this video and I don’t need to tile my shower.
  • @clydehorton159
PEOPLE!!!! PLEASE UNDERSTAND ITS ABOUT $400 IF YOU DO IT YOURSELF. DO NOT CALL AROUND TELLING INSTALLERS YOU SAW THIS VIDEO AND THE JOB SHOULD ONLY COST $400. LOL I love this channel great tips, thank you!
  • @ILikeRagtime
I watched your Video out of curiosity. I've been doing Tile for over 50 years. Buddy, this is the BEST dam Tutorial I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing it with the DIYer's. I real treat to watch!
  • I tiled right over the existing tile of my shower by following Jeff's instructions. It came out great! Just take your time and follow each step exactly. My first shower came out so good that I am now starting the second one!
  • Protect Jim at all cost. The tile mafia are probably EXTREMELY pissed at this gem of a video 🤣🤣

This video inspired me, a 71 year old novice, to redo my entire bathroom. Jeff is a wealth of information and inspiration. I am so grateful. I watched his other videos on how to install plumbing fixtures, ceiling exhaust fan, radiant heat cables under my pebble floor, and more. The results are beautiful. Wish I knew how to share before and after pictures.

I have been struggling with the thought of bathroom renovation because the cost is outrageously high if I get someone to do it. This video is a life saver as I’m slowly preparing to DIY without removing the tiles. What a wonderful video, thanks, Jeff! You probably save my marriage too lol

I was a tile contractor for 25 years and I always removed all metal fixtures, soap dishes, and covered the tub with a heavy canvas in case I dropped a tile or something on the tub corner. That way you do not chip the tub finish. I have had great luck with redguard although Mapai products are good too. One last thing. I always spread my thinset level across the shower wall so that I can lay a nice even bed of mortar and I go to wherever 3 or 4 rows of tile will reach. Like if the tile is 11 3/4 inches, I spread 36 inches level across the wall and lay those 3 rows, then do the next 3 rows. I like your videos

Im no contractor but my mom and i learned what we can about this kind of work to do our own home improvements/renovations. We never had the money to hire professionals but used books and videos to our best advantage.

Who dis-liked this video?! This is golden! I'm in process of buying a house and this may come in handy; I've seen a lot of houses with pink, green. and yellow tile, lol. I never knew this was possible! It would def save a lot of money.
  • I swear i always wondered why putting tiles over your current tiles wasn’t an option. I am so glad I accidentally ran into this video. I am a first time home owner and purchased a new builded home. Home came with everything standard and i am ready to do some updates together with my husband. I already shared this video with him so we can start planning. Cant wait

This man is a God of construction! I’m watching all these videos just to have an idea of what I could do for when we finally get a home. This is great!!
  • If you're using a quarter inch by quarter inch trowel you need to back butter your tile. You should never grout your corners or where the tile meets the tub. Always use 100% silicone on all joints and corners. When you're applying thinset on the wall don't go up too high or else it starts to dry. I put maybe two feet worth of thin-set up before tiling. I never grout on the same day. Guys like you keep me really busy. Thanks for all the work. P.S. always silicone in all your plumbing fixtures.

I just like the fact that you CAN tile over tile !
  • @davemorris9489
Awesome video!! I took this project on while my wife was out of town because I know she would say it can't be done this way. Let me tell you, the transformation was amazing and I never cut a piece of tile before this project. In total, I spent around $1,300 for tools, tile, cement and other supplies (e.g., a laser level is a must) and around $2,100 to have a frameless door installed. The door installation was the only part of the project that I didn't feel comfortable doing myself. The shower door guy was blown away that I did it myself and that it was tile over tile. For the walk-in shower floor, I used penny tiles with an epoxy grout (Starlike EVO). I was a bit intimidated to try an epoxy grout because of the quick dry-time, but this product was very forgiving and I had no problems. Thanks so much for posting this video and for anyone out there thinking about trying this, I'd say go for it. Just take your time with the tile measurements and planning the tile placements. Cheers

Wow. I just got a quote from a company that does acrylic showers. The list of what they could not do was longer than what they could do. Bottom line he quoted me - with a straight face - $20k for basically three pieces of acrylic. A bottom piece and two sides (the other two sides are glass). Of course ripping out the existing tile is part of their approach. Needless to say Jeff has absolutely inspired me to go over the existing tile. Don’t think I have any mold issues but what the heck go ahead and do the water membrane for good measure. Thanks Jeff! P.S. I’ll take some before and after photos and post them if possible.

Hello, I am contractor in Arizona, the reason we want to Tearout the old tile and start from scratch. The plumbing fixtures 90% of them won’t fit back on. Also we are required to warranty all of our work for 2 years. Going over someone else’s work we are liable for anything they may have done wrong. That’s why many contractors don’t want to tile over tile. Plus we are registered contractors, so we have to follow building codes. Set by the state to protect homeowners.
  • @eviciriaco3025
I’ve watched the video several times ... Jess always has answers from simple to complicated /unheard of projects like this! Thank you! I’ll be tacking my shower - a major project for me :))
  • @ppurple9320
You know what I love about this video? He didn't use a wooden baton to start the first row. In the UK they are completely obsessed with that, I love the way he just cut the tile in half, stuck down and got busy. Respect.
