I have listened to (and played a bit somewhat poorly) all kinds of music; rock, reggae, house, techno, dance, etc, etc, etc. One thing I can say is that when I've met the greatest musicians in every genre who are very sharp people, they all speak of and insist that the music of the classic composers, Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Vicaldi, Haydn, Chopin, Mendelsson, etc, etc, etc, etc is the pinnacle. One time, at a Reggae show in Boston, Ma in around 1994, at a place called The Channel, I was shocked when I had a long conversation with the keyboard guy from The Wailers, Earl "Wya" Lindo (Bob Marley's band-Bob died around 15 years earlier) Earl was sharp and said "You ave to heeer Beethoven before you can take the next step in any direction in museeek" Listened to this for 6 hours gutting my basement. Surreal.
