Learn how to make a DIY fog chiller! This was a really fun and easy DIY halloween project that is perfect for upping your Halloween game this year! We made a simple fog chiller that takes in fog from a regular fog machine, uses ice to make it nice and cold, and then creates a rolling fog effect as it comes out of the chiller.

This project uses normal materials that you probably already have around the house and only takes about an hour to make. No complicated tools are necessary and it's a great project to do with the kids!

We go all out for Halloween every year and do a huge haunt at our house. This diy fog chiller is a critical component of making our setup amazing.

  • The input "vent" is for air inductment, somewhat similar to how a dyson fan works. It does not work in your case because you have the fog going into a large chamber and then having it ooze out and exit port. If your pipe went through the chiller box without filling the box with fog it would work. Basically if you had a long pipe the fog would shoot out and have to push against all the air sitting in the pipe. The entry "vent" allows the fog to pull outside air that is at the same pressure as the air in the pipe, so it has less resistance shooting through the pipe.
  • Attach a tombstone to the front behind the skull and you have a crypt. That's an awesome prop. Thank you

Tip: We spray painted a dryer vent duct tube black and attached one end to our fog chiller output. We then can move the other end of the tube to anywhere in our graveyard and hide the chiller further back in the shadows.
  • Put a Tombstone behind the skull to hid the black container, then maybe add a small spot light to show off the Skull and Tombstone. How about some dry ice. Very nice.
  • An alternative method is to use flexible ducting tube for the interior. Make it snake back and forth several times, then clamp it with adjustable ring clamps to pvc pipes on each end. This will improve the overall airflow while making an airtight and waterproof interior.
  • For a graveyard I think doing this with a coffin would be mind blowing.
  • Great idea, looking forward to trying it! We found some low cost fog enhancing tricks as well. Scatter ice all over the yard; it makes a huge difference in keeping fog low and dense. If the yard has a slight downgrade, try making a solid trail of ice and watch fog flow like a stream down the lawn.

For the input , just use a straight tube and don't press the fog machine right up to the intake, just distance it about 2 inches or 2 fingers from the intake. The flowing smoke will create a venturi effect into the container , little to no fog will spill out and it will suck in more air.
  • @Tysto
Woah. I’ve used a fog machine for a surprise (hidden behind the open door & pointed thru the crack) for trick-or-treaters, but chilling the fog is an awesome effect. I’m definitely trying that next year.

Instead of ice cubes, how about frozen water bottles? They create less mess, and are reusable.
  • My dad and I built a chiller when I was a teenager in the mid 90s. We used an old Coleman cooler and made a tube of hardware cloth so the ice wouldn't block the intake and out vent holes. We made pvc elbows curve up to the top of the lid so we can set the fog machine on top of the cooler. I still have the thing πŸ˜‚

Nice! I made mine out of a cooler from dollar general! Keeps ice, air tight lid! This is great!
  • A great idea to hode the storagr tub would be to attach one of those foam tombstones to the front then all you'd see was a grave with smoke coming out the skull, hot glue will work just fine for this purpose.
  • I'm so glad I finally found you guys. Going back to watch your old videos is almost as fun as anticipating your new stuff.
  • If you're using 2 inch pvc pipe, you could seal around the pipe with one of those black rubber toilet sealers instead of silicone. Perfectly fit.

This looks much more compact and neater than what we created - I need to compare the effect. We used a large black trash can. We cut two holes in the sides almost at the ground, ran dryer exhaust hose through it and dumped ice all over the top of the hose. The cold was able to penetrate the flexible hose. It was inside a garage so we had to also rig up an exhaust fan and put an overflow bin below the trash can to contain water, but it worked well.

No matter what tote I tried I could not prevent fog from escaping the lid. So instead of a tote I used a bucket. Same build technique and it works better than the tote. There seems to be more fog being discharged rather than sitting in the tote due to the smaller volume of the bucket. Thanks for another awesome video.

not sure if this helps, but recognising a metalhead kept me watching.
  • How tf did I live all my previous Halloween’s as an β€œadult”, without knowing about this channel? - I should be asleep, but I’m binge watching lol πŸ˜‚
