Two teenagers and a woman were attacked by sharks Friday in separate incidents just a few miles apart along the Florida Panhandle. On the same day, a shark seriously injured a woman off the coast of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. CBS News national correspondent Manuel Bojorquez has more.

Stay out of a shark's kitchen and he'll stay out of your living room

The sharks in Hawaii and Florida are related and they are communicating via soundwaves in the ocean. Sound rediculous? So is the tie in between Oahu and Florida.
  • I think the sharks can sense the perfectly spiced Cuban and Hawaiian meat on the beach 😅

As someone who lives on land I can confirm sharks live in salt water.

Manuel Bojorguez is correct and accurate in this interview. Most sharks feed on other smaller fish and occasionally crustaceans (crabs, lobster, shrimp). Larger sharks feed on seals and sea lions. When a shark bites a human, that's usually the end of the encounter. Most marine biologists and ichthyologists will tell you that it's a pretty strong theory that sharks don't like the taste of human flesh. But if you're in the water during a fish migration where sharks are hunting, your chances of being bitten by a shark go way up. Also, if you're bleeding in the water, sharks think you're an injured fish, and they will investigate by taking a bite. If you're thrashing in the water like an injured fish, they will investigate by taking a bite. Sharks appeared in the fossil record in the early Silurian period 440 million years ago. They're highly evolved but haven't changed much at all in all these years because... You can't improve on evolutionary perfection.
  • No way!!! I didn't know there were sharks. When did this all come about? Thanks for the warning! 🤦‍♀

Whenever you enter the oceans, you do so at your own risk.

There’s also several shark attacks at Tybee Island, so it’s not just Hawaii and Florida. We have a massive heat wave here in Georgia so that’s why more sharks are staying closer to the beaches

If you are ever going to have a successful tourist venue they are going to have to be proactive. I suggest jet ski observers for swim areas to spot and deter close encounters. These provide quick lifesaving opportunities unlike anything else. Fishing piers in close proximity to swimming areas are the worst case scenario.
  • Why do I hear the theme from the movie jaws when I see these reports?
  • Soon everyone will put on an ankle bracelet as they go to swim that gives off electromagnetic impulses to deter sharks. That technology is developing.
  • Questions: 1) Can air and sea drones please be set up to help secure beaches near designated booths attended by life-guards (for viewing drone- cameras on multiple live- stream screens & to operate in-booth drone controls)? ~~~ ALSO ~~ 2) Integrate regulations related to 🚩DREDGING🏊 ("renourishing" eroded beach sand), to avoid accidentally increasing shark access (esp to dips between sandbars) & stirring up bait-fish populations where and when swimmers will be nearby!!! ~~~~~~~ Ocean swimming isn't just important to the tourism industry, but also to the health & pleasure of local populations. 🏖️ Thank you.

This is the result of numerous submarines and constant use of radar in that area.
