Those are some breathtaking shots, WJZ. I'm glad I'm on terra firma.
  • Waiting until insurance companies "sort it out" could take a decade or more. Congress needs to front the money for rebuilding now. Ban the ship's owner and operator from US ports until restitution is made.
  • Saturday, May 18, 2014 The current date scheduled for The Preakness (horse race), in Baltimore. WARNING!!

Of course, I am not in a position to know all the facts, but from what I have seen so far, I think it is the joint fault of both the bridge designers and the ship's owner. A bridge should be able take some pretty hefty impacts from a ship. The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco has some massive concrete pillars at the base protecting the steel work.

This doesn't just affect Baltimore, it affects the whole country. They are making great progress. Baltimore could not do this themselves.

im noticing a lot of references to the statue of liberty as of late, peculiar.

What I don't understand is why these very important bridges are so poorly protected against collisions.
  • i wish the port authorities had the rule of using tugboats for such a big container vessel........morans
