I built a modern dining table from live edge book matched myrtle burl slabs and inlaid traditional japanese kumiko panels in the asa no ha pattern. This live edge table is one of a kind and I've never seen a table with kumiko inlaid like this. All proceeds from the sale of this table benefit the Katz Moses Woodworkers with Disabilities Fund.

As someone with a physical disability, I just want to say how much I admire you for doing this. Thank you for shining a light on causes like this and for helping to empower people. I think sometimes we lose sight of the fact that imperfections make people beautiful too.
  • My Dad passed away 2012. He was an amazing woodworker/ craftsman. As he aged and his mind faded, I'd find him in his shop in tears. He knew what he wanted to make, but forgot how to do things he had been doing for 60+ years. I became his helper and provided gentle guidance when he "forgot how." He didn't use techniques like they did in the 1800s. But he was still a damn fine woodworker and craftsman. He loved learning new things and putting that knowledge into projects. For his final projects, the mind was quite faded. I was providing more and more guidance. But he was still the master woodworker. And i the assistant. Enjoy your craft. Dad would tell you to learn new things. Try weird projects. Take creative leaps of faith. Make your baby girl proud. Just as I am of my favorite craftsman and woodworker. (Those that say discouraging things - let their opinions fall to the floor like sawdust, sweep them up, and throw them out. Pay them no mind). You do amazing work. At the end of the day, when your head hits the pillow, know that the only opinions that truly matter are those of the two lovely ladies in your life. ❤

That isn’t just a table. That is a piece of fine art.

Your wife's response made me cry. She was excited that the table could be hers as seen when she asked that question; but her face literally lit up when you explained what you were doing. So...she's either a really good actress or she totally vibes with your philanthropic mindset. I think the 2nd is true, and it's a beautiful thing...even more beautiful than the masterpiece you created here.

I enjoy watching when Craftsmanship is matched with philanthropy. I was homeless 7 years on the streets when I was blessed to rent my house after being 2 years clean and sober I was given furniture. I still get tears thinking how blessed when people are given opportunities to thrive

Ok, for anyone to say you aren’t a woodworker is malarkey. You are a maker, an artist and a woodworker. Anyone that is a woodworker uses tools. How do the tools you use make you any less of a woodworker? Don’t listen to the haters. I love everything you do.
  • "We Are The World"...thanks for helping others. Beautiful job!!
  • When you “tripped” and appeared to destroy that panel I actually screamed in empathy, then laughed and cursed a bit when it was a prank. Well played! And you are definitely a maker/creator/woodworker, this is gorgeous.

My heart literally stopped when you “dropped” it. 😂 you’re a bad man. This table is absolutely stunning. The generosity of your time for the charity is also humbling.

Jonny I can’t thank you enough for supporting our charity and helping get resources to those who need it most. This beautiful build will be a lifetime piece for some lucky person. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Brother, your wife is a keeper. You hit the lotto in the spouse department! She seems like an absolute delight to be around and I could tell she was humbled when you told her the proceeds were going to charity. She’s a rare gem!

It's called Wabi-sabi; an appreciation of the beauty in imperfection.
  • @agm97ga
As a person with an "unseen" or "invisible" disability, I truly appreciate all the work that went into this "We are the world" table and the donation you are making. What a truly amazing gift. And that sweet baby girl is adorable!

This was easily the coolest slab table I have seen anyone make. I'm not a woodworker, although I've pounded pieces together for various items, but I enjoy watching what other people are capable of. Combining the traditional Japanese technique with a slab table was a great idea and turned out beautiful. And i admire your altruism and this clearly meant a lot to your wife. Great work, super creative and a beautiful soul. Thanks.
  • @KimPossible666
I would be so happy if one day i could afford one of your custom tables and pass it down to my children. The work that goes into it is truly amazing and should be treasured for generations to come!
  • @ianariyoshi2712
I don’t care what anyone else says, that patch job on that big ass knot was impeccable. So clean. Love it
  • Your wife's reaction to her gift was so sweet. What a lovely lady.
  • @MikeG-js1jt
This is another one of those guys that has such a strong work ethic that seems to come just as much from doing the work itself as from the money...
  • @Ttingey01
I love that you said you are a “maker”! I am too! Love your sense of humor!
  • I am a retired woodworker and tool & die maker of over fifty years experience. Part of my job at one time was making one of a kind, custom furniture for General officers. Who ever told you that you are not a woodworker does not know what they are talking about and should be ignored. Continue doing what you love and stay safe. Nice table by the way.
