Put away your phone, learn your brisket, and be ready to stand for 8 hours with no lunch break. It takes more than just making sure those bathrooms are spotless to work at Buc-ee's.

What has your experience with Buc-Ee's been like?
  • @unarmedduck
I don't understand why American retail companies obsess over making their workers stand 100% of the time.

Someone seriously needs to call OSHA in on this company for so many worker’s rights violations. At the very least they should get 2 15 minute breaks for every 8hr shift. Or better yet, with 250 employees, the employees need to vote in a UNION to fight for their rights.
  • Former employee here, Buc-ee's was literally the hardest job I have ever had physically and mentally. It takes a toll on your body and overall wellbeing. They're rated 2.7 on indeed for a reason. Lunch "breaks" used to be 5-7 minutes max to eat, use the restroom, and go back to your department, before they changed it to 20 minutes, you could sit and use your phone. Where I worked, they would schedule you 6, and even up to 10 days in a row before you get your 1 or 2 days off before starting back up again, with 8-12 hour shifts. Because they're strict on using the restroom, I intentionally dehydrated myself so I wouldn't have to use the restroom as much, which had a negative impact on my body. Standing for as long as I did, and the days on end doing it, I had nothing left in me to want to get out of bed on my days off before starting my work week again. New people constantly leave, if you last more than a month, the company was lucky you hadn't quit. I understand not using your cell phone on the job, but things come up, kids, medical/family emergencies happen, but we can't attend to that without risk of getting fired? Same thing applies if you have a smart watch too. With the tardy policy, doesn't matter if you got in an accident, flat tire, personal emergency, etc, still get wrote up even if a minute late. The pay is the way it is for a reason, because they need something to bait people in for the toxic work environment. Even if you did work your way up to earn more money, there is a poor work-life balance, easily doing 55+ hour work weeks. We're humans, not machines. There is way more to life than a job that will easily replace you if you dropped dead. How I survived a little over a year at that place I'll never know, it's exploitation at its finest.
  • I appreciate the exemplary high standards that the employees have to demonstrate while on the job. And I show my appreciation by spending my hard-earned money at these locations. However, if one of these stores can have up to 250 employees, there is no excuse as to why the employees are not allowed a 30 minute break! Even truck drivers get 30 minute breaks and yet, their job involves sitting and driving up to 10 hours a day. These employees are required to stand up throughout their entire shift. Therefore they deserve a 30 minute break too and an actual employee lounge. Do better corporate!

Ugh. Former Buc-ee's employee here. I was hard up for money after the pandemic, thought maybe it might be a nice company to invest a few years with. I made it five agonizing months. That job literally sucked the lifeforce out of me. Never have I seen moral so low. After awhile everyone becomes a zombie chasing a paycheck. Nobody sticks around. What else can I say? It sucked.
  • Slavery is alive and well....these same employers are the ones that act like no one will work these days...yea if someone has to take a shit they gotta go...as an adult you don't ask to go potty...you go...thats a human right that nobody should infringe on

Glad I didn’t go to the one in Florida while I was there last summer. Treat the employees like humans with lives and needs! There’s a high turnover for damned good reasons!
  • I used to work at Buc-ee’s as a cashier for about six months last year. The pay was amazing but I got burnt out real quick. I worked nearly everyday with the same shift non-stop. Money is good when you have a life outside of Buc-ee’s 😭. I left after one day just being straight done with it all.
  • It’s awful. My friends 2 daughters work/worked there. They fired a guy immediately because some chocolate, literally a drop fell on his gloves which he was changing and he licked it and they fired him instantly. And my friends daughter was fired last week for according to them refusing to take out the trash. She was looking for the dumpster because she had never taken it out before and another employee outside said it’s on the other side I’ll take it and they fired her saying that she refused to take out the garbage because she didn’t put it in the dumpster herself. They fire people daily. I honestly think that the managers are required to fire a certain amount of people weekly. And 1 manager is always watching a bank of screens in the back to look for someone to fire. They work them like crazy. They are a nightmare to work for. It’s not a good place to work. So many things they do that they shouldn’t be allowed to do. I do believe the government says that in an 8 hour shift you get 2 paid breaks and 1/2 hour unpaid lunch. No lunch and 5-10 minute breaks. I don’t know how they get away with some of the things they do.
  • If I can't go to the bathroom on my need to go its a hell no to ever be employed at this company.
  • @bdun1226
If you are a Buckees customer please be kind to the employees, because the company sure isn’t!
  • @toamatoro570
Who else is here after seeing the 18 an hour opening on Indeed, deciding to do a bit of research, and realizing they just dodged a major bullet by not applying?
  • Not just that, they are not allowed to talk between workers. They write you up if you do. They keep microphones and cameras micro managing people.
  • I believe someone should get a lawyer involved, it's no wonder retail chains have a hard time keeping employees you don't treat people like shit
  • I know someone that that worked there for 3 years without any attendance or discipline issues And was Fired because they were 1 minute late because of a fatal accident even though she contacted the manager and informed him of the situation and was given a ok by the manager
  • I live in ct but I travel to Florida about once a week and I stop at bucees sometimes, it's good but always so busy unless you go at night or early morning, the bathrooms are definitely the cleanest I have seen. It would be nice to see them care about there employees and treat them respectfully
  • I currently work at a bucees and I can fully say without a doubt it’s the worst job I’ve ever had in my life. Job itself isn’t that hard but the amount of bs that I deal with on a regular basis was enough for me to put in my two weeks. From rude as hell customers to really stupid and strict company policies.

Looks like a great store, but would HATE working there.
