If I recall, there were also Americans who had been passing away mysteriously at resorts from drinking contaminated liquor not long before the pandemic
  • How tragic. That poor couple went on a nice holiday to celebrate their 60th anniversary and she ends up being a widow. How horrific. I’m sorry for all the families affected by the loss of their loved ones.
  • Who remembers someone tampering with the alcohol in the hotel rooms poisoning guests...

This happened before at another resort just before the Pandemic and it was linked to contaminated/poisoned liquor bottles that was supplied to the guest in their hotel suites. It's just wrong what people do to each other nowadays, the evil & hatred is so surreal!....
  • The last time this happened. The guest had visited a local bar and they too had died. Something is not with these resorts. This is not the first time this has happened 🤔
  • Remember the people a few years ago with alcohol poisoning at different resorts.

Every single symptom sounds like ciguatera, and if you're going to get it, the Caribbean is one of the most likely places. It usually isn't fatal, but it can be, especially if you're older. After gastrointestinal problems (what they went to the hospital for) you get neurological symptoms within 12-24 hours, which can include convulsions, which the couple who both died apparently had, and paralysis, which survivor reported. In serious cases it also causes cardiac problems, so you can die either from asphyxia due to paralysis or circulatory failure. The good news is that it is fairly uncommon even in places like the Caribbean. The bad news is that if you get it just about all they can do is pump your stomach and give supportive care. There is no antidote or cure. If you're going to eat fish in the tropics, know which ones are safe(r) and which ones aren't. The locals often eat species known to have a higher risk for this. That's definitely true in the Bahamas.
  • This is so sad. There were some similar cases pre pandemic of vacationers passing away mysteriously of unknown causes at resort destinations pre pandemic. Perhaps some bacteria laden food or drink. Makes you hesitant to travel to exotic locations.

The resorts in some countries have THE WORST FOOD/WATER. Everything is served lukewarm,pre-heated and left out for hours. You’re better off getting an airbnb or renting a house and preparing your own food. Or hiring a chef.

I appreciate this reporter not speaking in “robot voice”. Very refreshing.

How can they say they don't expect foul play So early in the investigation? Make it make sense
  • One moment you're happy and on holiday, the next you're dead. Get right in your soul because you never know when your time's up

Can you imagine surviving a pandemic, finally getting to travel again, only to suddenly die on vacation. It’s really horrible. I’m sure that resort saw tough times during the pandemic too, but who will want to stay there now?
  • This sounds very similar to the strange cases of American and Canadian deaths several years ago in the Dominican Republic. As far as I know, the causes were never really determined.
  • @lpgfamily5
They don’t expect foul play? I’m pretty sure most Americans know there are issues when it comes to what you ingest as a tourist in the Caribbean. This doesn’t strike my intuition as an accident.
  • This is so heartbreaking on Mother's day...prayers go out to all involved...

Wow, how strange. May those who passed rest in peace.
  • Prayers and Condolences for the Families 🙏 and the surviving victim.

These things make me afraid of going on vacation. I'm so sorry for the families.
  • I have a vague memory of listening to a podcast of a resort in Spain or somewhere else where the resort was using a chemical/pesticide outside and it was getting sucked into the A/C.... people died.
