You’ve been told “It’s not how you start; it’s how you finish.” That’s cool and all, and very motivational, but sometimes what you really need is to hit the ground running.

League of Legends sees incredible new rookies explode onto the scene every year, dethroning veterans, capturing trophies, and opening our eyes to new possibilities for the future of the esport. Many rookies have won titles in their first year as a pro. Many more have led their teams to deep runs at Worlds. More than one rookie has even won Worlds.

But only one player was so explosive as a rookie, so dominant, so game-changing, that within his first year as a pro, he had become not only a World Champion, but the best player in the entire world: T1's iconic mid laner Faker.

When Faker raised the Summoner’s Cup above his head with SKT T1 on October 4, 2013, it was a declaration of greatness now and greatness to come. This League Worlds 2013 title was the final emphatic exclamation point on the greatest rookie year in League of Legends history.

Dive into the data behind this legendary season and achievement, and see why from the beginning, Faker was truly the greatest to ever do it.

  • Faker was responsible for like half the nerfs from 2014 to 2016 mid lane champs. that's how GOAT he is
  • I saw his debut. I saw him dominating. I saw his fall. I saw him crumbling. But still I’m seeing him revive once again. The Greatest Of All Time
  • Not to mention unlike other hyped up players, Faker in his whole career has always remained courteous, loyal and humble. The Pinnacle of Aspirations.
  • Coming back to this after the 2023 Worlds. I am simply speechless. There's genuinely never going to be a player like him, that's how fucking great he is. His legacy will live on.
  • Besides his skills. I also admire how he is passionate to the game even that he debuted almost a decade ago. He is the greatest already yet he wants to improve more and more.
  • Greatest Rookie year, Greatest Plays, Greatest Peak, Most badass Nickname ever, Most achievements, Longevity, Great leader, Great teammate, Amazing sportsman, Humble, respectful. The mans career is perfect and a perfect role model for aspiring esports player.

A decade later, he now has 4 worlds championships. Legend..
  • @C9LoL
It's already been 9 years of Faker 😯
  • Faker completely revolutionized how Riven was played. He also popularized the assassin mid meta and was responsible for way too many nerfs on mid lane Champs.
  • There was an interview where he said he will continue to play as long as he can so that new pro players will have a goal to beat his legacy.

Faker is the GOAT. He established the way people play. The mechanics we see today were started by him! And not only is he still evolving constantly to the times, but he’s at a high level even against young new players. He is so humble, and truly the greatest legend

We need an updated video most especially now that Faker just won his 4th worlds title! Legend indeed.
  • Among those the greatest players, who is still playing in the field? FAKER The one and only. That’s why we call him a living legend. No matter how many words you find to describe Faker, they won’t be enough bc his journey is still going on, and will continue to make legacies that many players would chase!! :) I am so proud of living in Faker’s era.
  • Every Faker's documentary, there's always Faker vs Ryu match up.
  • @Ramza1987
I'm not even a fan of this game and i still understand how BIG Faker was. One of a kind in history.
  • This man is the reason why lolesports is what it is. He invented the style of laning//gameplay that is now considered normal. The goat for sure, forever.

this video is one of the few to touch on a bit of why Faker was/is such a monolith i'm sure most newcomers know Faker, but i doubt that most ever know just how many tenants of "correct" play are entirely because of him there's a reason he gets compared to Jordan so much; completely changed the game (figuratively and literally) multiple times someday someone might come along and be technically/mechanically 'better' than Faker, might have better stats, but no one can ever impact the game or eSports as a whole on the level that he has; it's just categorically impossible
