We have major biases when imagining what advancement even means. We assume sentient aliens will want to expand, to gather all the energy. I could see some being fine with their resource allocation strategies and advancing in other ways, like creative expression, or diving into the nature of the universe with their version of meditation. All of these aliens are grabby like us. Maybe the most advanced beings are still and at eternal peace but still live.

Just to clarify I think there is instead of 3 class there 6 class types on the Kardashev scale, the three you just listed the fourth mastering space and time, the 5th as in fifth dimensional species, and the 6th class species are able to manipulate the time continuum gain the power of other quantum parallels, I don't know if I got that in the right order but yeah also, the Dyson sphere, I would like to include in this discussion that if aliens were to use that many resources, they would not have very much material themselves, a star covers a lot of space, for the third class species to use all of that material would be a waste, now for them to figure out energy methods on to surrounding a star, of a certain field of energies that can be used as portals like in wormholes surrounding a star making the star dimming, well they use wormholes to transfer the energies to cores of planets would make a lot more sense for intelligent species by the way if I can add this and for people to take me seriously I think that is more of what is going on when you look at those Dyson spheres, you may find them correct...
