  • I really love how awesome of a team you’ve both become. As a man, becoming closer to my step father, I enjoy the work we do together. It’s calming and rewarding, and in the end, we look forward to a nice dinner with a beer.

Watching Jeff paint is always is fascinating. He is so good ! He does all the little cutting strokes and feathering with ease. Every time I watch him I learn something new. Today's lesson is the one I struggle with most when painting - PATIENCE. Thanks Jeff and keep up the good work! Your lesson have saved me thousands to date.

Hey, Jeff. That strapping that you had to remove from the door frame is meant to hold the doors together on a pallet. They'll ship them 5 or 6 on a pallet and have that strapping for support during shipping. Store should be removing that when they load in on a sales floor so you don't have to.

This was amazing! He asked good questions that helped clarify things for me. All I need now is a house to put up a shed.
  • @hornet65
I was once helping my dad install an interior door. He was planning on teaching me how to do all the shimming stuff, but by some kind of miracle, it installed without needing any kind of shimming or leveling, or anything. It came out absolutely perfectly. And I attribute this to the door and the jamb, and the walls all being equal amounts of uneven and unlevel in just the right places.
  • I have an old barn to refurbish. This whole shed tutorial will help me both save money and work smarter.
  • I need to send you a Father’s Day gift card. You should see all the projects I’ve done at this house based on your videos

As someone who works in home improvement retail, that's just the store being lazy and not removing the shipping strapping. They typically come upright on pallets of 5 to 6 doors and that strap stops them from shifting.
  • Jeff, sorry to be the master of the obvious, I do love your videos. Rough frame in dimensions and actual door dimensions usually leave you with a far more space than you had here. You spent the first 14 minutes of this install dealing with having too tight of a rough frame in. If your framer is a Ninja Level 10 type then you can get away with a tighter opening. Typically the side rough opening is approx. 2" wider and the top rough is 1" taller. The shims and the level are your time saving friend-- and over-sandwich your shims and compress them with your installation screws. Thanks again Jeff!

6:50 That's a #3 Phillips bit. And the reason they're there, is because the HD received multiple doors on a pallet. These doors are screwed with nylon straps to prevent their movement during shipping. Store associates are supposed to remove them when they stock them, however, sometimes people get lazy and only remove the screws on one side (the side facing the store aisle). lol
  • @Rick-tb4so
If you have a chance to spray the door the finish is second to none.
  • @peterbilt355
As you started painting the door and talking. I thought that maybe you were channeling your inner Bob Rose. Love watching your knowledge in action it inspires me to build and repair around my house and property. Thank you
  • @jimlofaro5695
young man learn from the best teacher ever, your Father. God Bless you both.
  • @Mike-sh2cb
As always love your work Jeff. Your kids are so lucky to have their old man with so much knowledge, patience and so importantly, humour! Thanks for sharing this and thanks to your kids. Merry Xmas and an awesome new year matey!! You will have a cracking 2024!! Mike-Barcelona
  • @stacyromanchuk
Love the work gents! I would recommend reading the door warranty card first. I found out that all of the jam had to be primed and painted or else the manufacturer wouldn't warranty anything on the door. Of course I found this out after the door was installed and siding put back on. End before the beginning everyone.
  • @jjleda7324
I've have had great luck with Rust-Oleum spray paint on exterior doors. Like always, great video!
  • When HGTV comes knocking on your door! It will be due to this. This, in my opinion is what crafting is about. Being able to adapt is key to getting the job done. Well done.
