Oesophageal cancer: causes, diagnosis and management

Published 2019-01-12
Carcinoma of the oesophagus is caused due to carcinogens such as alcohol and tobacco use. Additional etiological factors may be classified into those predisposing to squamous cell cancers and those predisposing to adenocarcinoma. Patients generally present dysphagia or symptoms due to distant metastasis. Diagnosis is based on biopsy along with endoscopic USG, PET or laparoscopy. The treatment consists of combined modality therapy which is also discussed in this presentation.
