During the War in Ukraine, there is perhaps no city that has seen as much combat as Bakhmut. Over a period of 5 months, Russia and Ukraine have been locked in a difficult battle, with Vladimir Putin unwilling to relent, no matter the cost.

The result has been a catastrophic number of casualties for the Russian military, with over 100,000 estimated during the Battle of Bakhmut.

In this video, we'll discuss it all, including the involvement of the Wagner Group, the corruption being used to deceive soldiers to fight for Russia, and the deadly consequences for Russia as a nation.

“Your father /brother/ son/husband died in the war? Here’s a fur coat!❤” My God… this is absolutely appalling

As a Canadian, it just boggles my mind that Russia, in this ONE battle, lost more soldiers than the entirerity of the Canadian Armed Forces (about 68 000 personnel)...

its surreal watching this and hear you talk about Prigozhin like he's still alive. Its gobsmacking to see how quickly things can change. RIP pringles, you'll be remembered.....as a bellend.

I talked to my grandmother about the World Wars. Her mothers brother was "gemustert" in 1916 and died in 1917, they actually had to BUY a coffin, drive to france and get him...I first could not believe it and thought it is a bad joke. Hearing now that the same is happening in Ukraine speaks words about the worth of a single live on the frontline.

I’m so happy not to have been born in a country like Russia.

That Call of Duty 4 quote will always be drilled in my head, such a skin crawling way to describe that level of human destruction. "70.000 people used to live here, now... it's a ghost town"
  • Bakhmut is also the longest battle in history surpassing the battle of verdun.
  • To autocratic leaders like Putin, the answer to 22:38 is always: "In a game of chess, do you believe chess masters care about how many of their own pieces they must sacrifice to keep their king safe and achieve victory for themselves? It doesn't matter if those people die in battle; I can always replenish them so long I stay in power."

For another comparison, the US number of casualties in the Vietnam War was 58,220 and that was over 8 years.

The Sunk Cost Fallacy is a common trap upon which many had fallen into over history. The idea that too much had been sacrificed for an objective that giving up would be unacceptable, even if the objective is ultimately meaningless.
  • @SkepticalChris
Russia didn't throw disproportional resources into Bakhmut to achieve victory, they threw disproportional resources into Bakhmut to prevent a outright defeat.

This war is most strangest and yet eye opening ever. Modern weapons / Old weapons. Modern tacts/ Old tacts. Everything is blending into one. Saying is right, the past always repeat itself. No matter what.
  • @ringspecies
"Prigozhin has a lot to gain". A part of this video did not age all that well. At least he got sent the munitions he desperately wanted.

This was never about liberate anyone. It was always a conquest of territory to build an even larger Russian empire. Slava Ukraini!💛💙
  • Ukraine's threat to Russia is having a former Soviet model ally become more successful after liberalizing their society. Russia's survival relies on lies, oppression and total power solidly contained within the hands of its leader's. A successful liberalization towards a western style society would unmask all of Russia's flaws commencing their demise. Russia is attempting to hold onto an ineffective system which is simply untenable.

The cost of reconstruction (of various destroyed cities) is actually being passed onto regional Russian cities in this bizarre "twin city" project. If you understand how's Russia's tax system works, and how all money is taken from the regions to fund Moscow, then you will understand what a terrible idea this is. But it sets up "fall guys" for why these cities never get rebuilt. The bulgar is always wrong, never the Tsar - this is how Russia's power vertical operates. St Petersburg, for instance, has been given the task of rebuilding Mariupol. Additionally, you need to take into account that the main money made through corruption in Russia comes through contractors (i.e. the oligarchs) winning tenders to build/operate things for huge companies like Gazprom (this is one reason why Nord Stream being blown up doesn't faze them - building another one is a great opportunity for graft). Rebuilding these cities is an incredible opportunity to extract huge sums of money through various means of corruption. Even when Putin visited Mariupol, he only went to the one apartment building (built in a U shape to hide the destroyed buildings) that has been constructed.

The loss of 100,000 men is totally irrelevant to the leaders in the Gremlin on one level but even they have to admit that there are consequences to this loss in terms of able bodied soldiers remaining and dent in the coffers but the loss of human life does not affect them at all.
  • How this has aged displays the incredible insanity of Ruzzia. Thanks 🙏 Slava Ukraine 🇺🇸🤝🇺🇦 you did good work 👍
