It's an extremely quiet area and I do talk a bit near the end so be careful if you have the volume turned up.

On this hike, I returned to the open lava tube to see how the beehive is doing after 2 years.

The beehive from two years ago is no longer but the bees are still there in smaller numbers. The hive appears to be inside the lava tube wall.

The original hive seems to have vanished. No signs of it are to be found. It's almost as if someone removed it.

Watch for bees returning from foraging with legs full of pollen. Many bees struggle to walk into the main part of the hive.

Can you spot the tiny invader that gets chased away?

This is yet another addition to my new series of hiking videos.
They will appear in my Hike-U-Mentaries playlist.
If you're staying at home due to the worldwide pandemic, go on a hike with me.

No fancy editing or cool music. Just everything I heard while out there.
Wear headphones or watch in a quiet place to avoid distracting sounds and take in the peacefulness of the area. Taking social distancing to the extreme.

The first part was shot with my Panasonic G9 and the 8 - 18mm lens and the 35 - 100mm. Then my Panasonic GH5 with 100 - 400mm Leica. The last wide clips are the GoPro 8. The audio was captured from all 3 along with the Zoom HN1 audio recorder as a backup.

The rest of my gear list is shown near the end of the video.
I'm not sponsored by anyone. These are just the items I use. All of the gear was purchased by me.

Can you spot the tiny intruder that gets chased away? It's a quiet video so if you turn up the volume be prepared for some talking late in the video.

@lavapix the theory I have is the Hawaiian indigenous people took the original hive to use in their food

this isn't the first hive you've came across, do you know why they choose these spots to make hives?
